I officially switched from Canon to Sony. I've been using Canon cameras for the 12+ years, and it's time to change.

Here is some of the new gear I picked up:

I’m a Canon crop sensor user and have been looking at full frame. I mostly do video just as a hobbyist. I like Canon for ease of use. How has the transition been? Getting used to menu system? How is the work flow compared to Canon? Files easier to work with?

Very informative. I enjoyed the video. As a reminder, the Canon EF to RF adapter brings all of Canon's wonderful EF lenses into the world of Canon mirrorless photography--and the EF legacy is vast.

I do think Sony represents a great value and the stacked cmos sensors are top notch - even Nikon is now using them. The Sony lenses are also a relative bargain, about 10% cheaper than Canon equivalent and they handle flare/contrast better. Recently upgraded from my Canon 5D mark2 to a Canon R3. Have been shooting Canon since the 10D (2003) so I guess you could say I have some brand loyalty. Because I switched out my entire kit of EF lenses for RF, I did strongly consider moving to Sony. The A1 is simply amazing. In the end I stuck with Canon mostly due to ergonomics and there's something about the quality of the light/images that Canon captures with their 1.2 primes and the fantastic 28-70mm f/2. Tough call, if I were primarily shooting video, I might have gone with the Sony.

I'm a sports photographer at a SEC School whos always used canon until recently for baseball season starting I needed a longer lens and ended up having to use a sony A7RII and a 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 and I was shocked at how the images turned out in the end way better than a lot of things i've shot on canon, way cleaner images, color and I feel like its upped my photo game so i'm making the switch to sony unless canon just comes out with a camera thats just unbeatable

Comparing the price of a A7III to a R5... is a no no!!! not the same league and you should know it! Another incorrect statement is the usage of EF lenses on RF mount... no problem at all! A simple adapter that in most cases you buy it with the camera and its ok!! Sony is offering amazing cameras!

Interesting to see the differences between Canon and Sony. I'm a Canon user myself and have also been considering to switch over to Sony and this video really shows why it might be a smart move. I still love Canon though, but Sony is steps ahead.

I had my first Canon as a kid in 1985, the Canon A1. I switched to Sony in 2018.

I could get the Sony A7iii for $1000 with the kit lens and it has 36 shutter count, should I get it?

Well about 3rd party lenses to Sony, there are none with teleconverters.
Because Sony only allows their own teleconverters. This needs to be taken into consideration for long focal length shooters.

As a longtime Canon user, I've always admired the performance of their camera bodies and started my photography journey with Canon. However, when it comes to lenses, it seems like Canon is falling behind, especially compared to Sony. I recently invested in the 200-800mm, expecting it to meet Canon's high standards, but I found the performance disappointing—honestly below even Sigma and Tamron lenses. Given its premium price point, especially next to Sony’s 200-600mm, I hoped for much better quality. Canon really needs to step up their lens game to be in the market.

At this time, switching camera systems between Canon and Sony has a lot of hidden lens cost. Sony and Canon lenses sell used for far less than their new purchase costs. Perhaps today, if you have a large collection of Sony or Canon lenses and go to another provider the loss you take on selling your current lens inventory will likely be equal to or greater than the costs of a Canon vs Sony camera body. Today, Canon and Sony cameras both more capability than many photographers can leverage.

Thing is, if you want to upgrade your video game to using true cinema glass, most rental houses are going to have lenses of one of two mounts: either Arri PL or Canon EF. And even though I know you have to adapt the EF to an RF body anyway on the Canon, Canon makes this neat EF-to-RF adapter that also includes a variable ND. I'm guessing the autofocus and other things would work more natively with a Canon EF-to-RF adapter than with a third party EF-to-Sony E adapter, right?

Thank you for this! Quick and easy to swallow! I've been considering Sony, now I am switching... Tks, again!

I’m switching to Sony this week. I’m sick of the expensive Canon lens and no 3rd party support.

Is there even 1 video out there this year where someone moves from Sony to Canon? It really looks like Sony is killing it in 2023
