Long time shooter with the EOS R and RP and I can say The color science is something I've come to appreciate I can always trust it will look good regardless of the situation I tried Sony and the colors seemed to be slightly off but autofocus was amazing, but if you know what you're doing with your focus points with canon it works incredibly so everything has a learning curve.

I've been using Canon since forever. However, now, with the mirrorless market and Canon lenses at camera prices, it is unfeasible to continue with the brand. As much as Canon's photography is truly incredible, with unique colors and contrasts, the post-editing leaves everything on the same page.
I believe I am migrating to Sony after 15 years at Canon.

My choice was easy. Went to camera store and used them. Left with Canon.

Canon. Ergonomics alone is enough to keep me off SONY. I dislike their boxy feel.

Never buy a Sony. You will get lost in the sh*t menu.

I wrestled between buying an R6II or A7IV and went with Canon. For photos, other than the megapixels (which 24 is fine by me), I prefer Canon colors. For video, the only edge A7IV has is dynamic range. I also love the catalyst browse feature. Canon has it's own advantages in video such as 180fps, external 6k 60 RAW (which should improve dynamic range), 4k 60 uncropped, better autofocus and the big elephant in the room, better rolling shutter. The rolling shutter is the biggest reason I chose Canon over Sony. Cannot have a solid video camera for the type of shooting I do with such horrific rolling shutter on the A7IV.

As with lenses, might surprise you but I preferred Canons lens option over Sony and here's why. The EF lens line up is quite extensive. You can get quality Canon EF lenses for less $ than Canon RF or Sony G master. With third party lenses, I only buy Tamron. I don't like Sigma's bokeh. Tamron's lineup for EF mount suited me better than with Sony. Plus the primes and zoom focal lengths I wanted are stabilized on EF mount but not with Sony mount. Sony's lenses aren't stabilized either. So even from a lens lineup, I saved thousands by buying EF Tamron and Canon glass plus got stabilization not available on Sony platform for comparable lenses.

I had a Sony A7III and just bought the R6MKII. I like the Sony sensor a little more (better dynamic range, especially in video) and that's where it ends. I like literally everything else more about the Canon. Just a way more enjoyable tool to use.

Are you using the R6 or the R6 mk II? You mentioned a 30 minute recording limit, but the R6 mk II doesn’t have this. The R6 mk II outputs 6k raw, which the Sony A7IV doesn’t do.

Sold my A7iv. Eye auto focus was not reliable and the skin tones still suck. Got the R6 II now.

I think your last statement sums it up. I am a photographer. I hate shooting and editing video. I took Adobe Premiere classes and learned the software and hated every minute. I like the Canon L and R glass. I love the colors and find editing easy to get your visions out. Their cameras seem more phot centric.

Something about the colours on Sony A7IV video has always has bothered me. Can't point my finger at why but it just doesn't look cinematic. It's why I went with R6 II. However the fact there's a wobble and not as good in low light bothers me. Can't ever get perfect

I’ve personally owned Sony a 74, and it actually overheats all the time this guy must be a new user because that was the reason why I got rid of it. Everything else with the camera was great, but the overheating was all the time.

if you can't get a good picture out of either - you need to concentrate on your photography skills, not on which camera to buy :)

Both are incredible cameras. I would be happy with. I went with the Canon R6 because I don't need a million lenses, just 1 prime and 1 zoom for my use, also the AF in low light is better, and FPS burst is better. The Sony high MP and lack of AA filter, and many lenses are pretty cool though.

I think I will pick up the r6 ii and here is why
for me i shoot at the moment in 1080p and i have an eos r
buying an a7iv will not open much for the future other than 10 bit and 4k 60 cropped.
I think the r6 ii will open more in the future up to that 6k raw and 180 fps plus the c log 3 10 bit and i find canon screens better as resolution and better menus

Great video, thanks! I'm just waiting for the A7V - I don't really need it, I just want it because of what the A9III has introduced - a much better grip!!!! Hehehehehehe...

I got the R6 Mark II after much research and I'm SOOO bloody happy! The R6 II has a way better body and LCD, slightly better dynamic range for photos, slightly lower noise, and shockingly is slightly sharper despite the resolution difference when upscaled. AF is better on the R6 II as well.

Alex Barerra did a comparison and the R6 II beat the A7IV when it came to photo image quality (noise, dynamic range and detail).

For video that cropped 4K on the Sony was a deal breaker though Slog has better dynamic range and noise than CLog3, though it doesn't really matter to me. And with all this, the Canon was cheaper ($3099 cdn vs $3299 for the Sony).

I got Sigma Art lenses and they are amazing because Canon's adapter system is the only one that works as well as native lenses. My Sigma 50mm Art is just as sharp as the RF50 1.2 and it's way, way, way cheaper, and it's smaller (even with the adapter), and it is actually faster focusing than the native RF lens.

As for overheating, I've actually had the opposite experience (as have many Youtubers). The A7IV would overheat regularly, but the R6 II will never overheat... in fact Canon guarantees it. 4K60 will overheat in about an hour though and recovers immediately. There is also no record limit. Additionally the R6 II doesn't even get warm. Most people I know are blown away by this fact.
You seem to be the only person that has noticed this.

As for colour matching, the R6 II matches perfectly with the R5. The OLD R6 was different.

For photographing people, I prefer Canon. Colors are more natural. Editing is also easy. With Sony, while I like the autofocus in videos, some colors go off. Especially sky, the color is so weird sometimes and I find it very difficult to correct it in post. Skin tones are also not that natural.

Even in this video the colors are much prettier on Canon.. I guess I'll stick with Canon for photo... Sony for video (zve1) and eventually get maybe fx3
