I grew up in a household where zero discipline was enforced. I’m 22 years old now and I’m starting on the path. I went through a very dark period of my life recently. The type of dark period I wouldn’t wish upon anyone. It was a wake up call for me. To escape the depression I found purpose. To escape the self consciousness, I found exercise. To stay fit, I eat right and sleep right. My parents taught me nothing of how to do any of these things. I just got sick of being lazy and sad. I’m only 5-6 months into this journey and I never want to go back. Looking back at who I was scares me, so I turn around and keep pressing forward.

I always tell myself, *“Think less, do more.”* I’m a procrastinator and it mostly stems from overthinking and second guessing myself. The fix was to just use my intelligence to come up with a working plan and then stop thinking ‘about’ it and just start executing. Only re-evaluate (or second guess yourself) when a new realization or data point has come to you that requires a change of plans.

Jordan Peterson says something that I htink can be helpful re this. "Aim low, but aim up." Trying to do too much at once is almost guaranteed failure, but *consistent action*, trending upwards over time is unstoppable.

My bestfriend and I are perfect example of the parenting not being a source of discipline: I was raised "strict" my parents and siblings all successful and self motivated. I was the youngest and shit was pretty easy even if I felt like I was grounded all the time. My best friend had a drug addict mom that he basically took care of since he was 12 when his drug addicted dad died, and growing up witht that kid watching him grow into the man he is now is amazing. He had no handouts, nobody telling him how to do shit. He found it within him. Now as a 30 year old finally trying to turn my life around he is one of my main sources of inspiration to look up to because he built a beautiful life for himself.

So simple yet so difficult! I watch these videos and get so motivated just to find myself 30 minutes later being lazy. I think my life will be easier if I make a habit of doing what’s hard. Pray for me because I’m still stuck on the “doing part.”

I had a drug addict dad and a mom and sister who died in a fire when I was 17. After that moment, when I was stuck with my dad, I decided to take ownership of my own life. I am not doomed to become like my dad. I am not going to be a product of my circumstances. I have chosen to be disciplined and to not be acted upon.

I have struggles like everyone else on this Earth, but I am happy. 7 years later I have an education, amazing job, and most of all a beautiful wife and amazing son. I am truly humbled with what I have been blessed with and incredibly grateful that I chose to take ownership and be disciplined.
