Is Chris Hodges, pastor of Church of the Highlands, a pastor that can be trusted to properly handle Scripture? Or, does he twist the Word of God in order to make it fit his own agenda?

I am an alcoholic in recovery and I have never felt more ashamed about myself or more judged by my peers then I have in their recovery group 12-52

My family all goes to this church. I lived in Bham for 2 years and met people who worked for him (Hodges) personally. The stories they told about how he treats people were revealing about his true nature.

Justin Peters also has a good take: if you want to hear God audibly, read [your Bible] out loud.

Pastor Chris Hodges has been my pastor my entire life. I have attended Church of the Highlands since I was a child. I will not say he is perfect or flawless, but I challenge you to name one perfect pastor and he will have terrible flaws as well. Do you really know P.C's agenda? Do you actually know him at all? Have you personally spoke with him in person or on a phone call? No. You do not know Pastor Chris, and quite frankly I don't know him personally either. But it is because of him that I know Jesus personally. It is because of his teaching and his sermons, that I am saved. The original languages of the Bible are quite different from the English language. There are 900 translations or paraphrases of the Bible in the English language alone. And you scold him for phrasing the Bible differently then some might? If you think there is only one right way of studying the Bible, one way of teaching, one meaning of the Bible, and that is your way; then you are narrow-minded. You do not want to save others, you do not want to make the world a better place, you want to be right. But that is the problem, we are all wrong and only God is right. Pastor Chris is not your classic old-fashioned preacher and Church of the Highlands is not your classic old-fashioned church. Its not that the old church is better, its that you're more comfortable with the old church. Comfort, the enemy of progress. Pastor Chris wants to reach the new generation, and that means not "twisting" the words of the Bible, but saying it in a way that people can understand. And yes, I am a Gen-Z. Now before you go attacking me for it, hold on, I can address my own flaws. I am a Gen-Z, and I probably can be pretty naive and stubborn, I spend too much time on my phone, and I'm far from perfect. But, I am open-minded. I try to live my life in a way that glorifies the God that made me. I try and learn something from every sermon and every teacher, even if I don't always agree with them. That doesn't mean changing my morals or values, it means I'm open-minded. So please, I'm begging you. Stop taking the world in from your perspective, your opinion only. Have an open mind. Thank you for listening to what I had to say and have a great day. God bless.

All he said was we have a hearing problem. He said nothing about prayer when you stopped it. We do have a hearing problem. God lays out his word in the bible. The Bible is God speaking to us. We choose not to read it or passively don’t read it and that is our hearing problem.

I’m a member of church of the highlands and I must say I was not living my life right before I started going to this church. And I’m still not perfect but I try to live right. I guess the Holy Spirit is watching over me because I have not seen anything wrong with the people I go to church with or the staff or pastor Chris. If he is wrong then i guess he messed up and led me to Christ. I know I have a lot of work to do in my own way with God. I do pray for anybody who is not receiving the word of God to find the right pastor or person that can help them and also read the Bible themselves.

The parable of "The seed and soil" isn't about how well your hearing from God and why your not hearing a "voice".
It is about salvation and the gospel preached from "The Word" as it is written. Also, it is about the condition of the hearts that fall away or endure and mature!
The seed is the Word and soil is the heart.

Agreed! Myself and family were members of a church in Destin Florida sometime back, that chose the Freedom curriculum by Church of the Highlands for small group discussions. It was something that was revered by many church members and spoken about as if it were life changing. Well, it turned out to be anything but life altering. In fact, it gave to the sinner what the sinner wants naturally. It was eisegesis 101 and these unfortunate souls ate it up. Please pray for them. 😞

So many issues with that “sermon”, including bad grammar. I’m sure you already noticed how often these speakers refer to pastors who teach sound doctrine as being “religious”, all as part of their indoctrination to make people think a solid Bible believing church is condemning and cold. Though they may think they are a solid Bible teaching church, they fall far short. I watched a sermon online of an ARC church near me, and “hearing the voice of God” was mentioned 3 times and “those religious people” mentioned twice in a 35 min sermon. Thanks for continuing to expose these speakers.

Man stands up there and lies to their faces because he *knows* they don’t know their Bibles enough to confront him.
Sad state of affairs.

John 16:13
But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not SPEAK on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.

What got to me is that when he said he’ll never say that we are sinners. I thought that was his job!!! By the way what is your podcast name so I can look for it.

These preachers think that 'exegesis' means 'exit Jesus'. Furthermore, why does he call a parable a 'make-believe-story'? If ever there was an exercise and demonstration in missing the point, this is it! '..many times He left it up to us to figure out on our own..' Really? That's why people end up with their skewed interpretations, just like Mr. Hodges has.

James 3:1 (NKJV)
My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
For the word of God [is] living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

You can always detect a false teacher by how rarely they quote Jesus. Or, if they paraphrase him so loosely it's hard to know what passage they are referring to.

Well this starts off strange. Making a point that he WON’T tell us that we are a bunch of sinners and need to repent? Might as well listen to Tony Robbins.

Yesterday, Chris Hodges brought his bible on stage and the only time he opened it was to gloat about HIS Church giving to the needy. I opened my bible and it took me straight to Matthew Ch. 8.
