I do have a comment that might just be one of the most important:
I have always loved rockhounding and mining -- especially when I was younger.
Unfortunately, I never took it seriously.
As I got older, I found myself wanting to get out more and more, but my body began to break down to the point that now, all I can do is watch videos, longing for the days when I was strong enough to do those kind of things that I really loved to do.
If mining is something that you want to do, do it while you can! There are many associations and clubs that you can join, where you can learn from those that have more experience than you, and you'll find that most of these folks are really good at what they do and are more than willing to share thier experience with you.
I'm house bound now, and all I can do is look back and say, I wish I could still do that, but I can't.
All I can do is watch Jeff and Ralph, and others.
Do it while you can. It's hard work, but it's fulfilling and fun.
Don't just think about it, go do it while you can.

I know a couple of friends that bought tons of equipment and sold thier houses to go fulltime. Your so right dont tell anyone about your finds. Hiw true it is they will steal off your claim in a heartbeat

As always, great information. If and when you do find a pile of gold, don't count on it the next month. I had a wife that liked to live in the moment, rough to keep her down. Even retired, I'm still getting gold. Sometimes by consulting and they say they owe me a button, Sometimes by hard work. So if you get 20 ounces this month, don't count on it next.😊

Not in Southern California mostly due to property regulations. Panning yes in California but no sluicing of rivers. In the Auburn, Grass Valley, CA area there is a gold exchange company that will give one full spot value.
You find gold, keep the mouth shut. Show pictures of another area. Sample mines before the shotgun comes in and blasts gold dust onto the walls. One more thing, I knew someone who had a claim in the gold country and never worked it. I had gone out with him to the claim one weekend and all we did was "fart around."

This is some of the best advice I’ve heard. I’ve been Prospecting for a little over 2 years I’ve done almost everything he has said besides selling my home or quitting my job 😂. We all get that gold fever and when he said be careful who you trust I 100% reinforce that statement, when I got my claim the guys who have mentored me who have claims along my claim have told me don’t trust people they have seen so many friends try and claim jump or think it’s ok to come out to there claim and bring others because there your friend didn’t think you would mind.
