It really depends on where you live ($$), what your financial situation is going into it as a business, whether there are other lines of income in your household, your own skill as a decorator and a business owner, the laws and regulations of your region, and the level of demand in your area. It’s very, very difficult to run a financially sustainable cake business alone from home, especially in the beginning when you are pouring so much of your cash back into the equipment you need to scale up to profitability. And the comment about working 24/7 wasn’t a cute joke, in case anyone watching this video didn’t take that line seriously. 💕

I wish you gave some numbers for the baking, so people can apply it to their own lifestyles and housing markets, haha

so many people are told to make their hobbies their jobs but that takes the fun out of it. theres a lot of pressure if that is your only source of income and like you said at the end, it would be hard to separate work and leisure time

The only way you're definitely not gonna succeed in life is if you never try anything. I'm sure it's possible to make it in a million different ways if you work hard, and of course, work smart.

50% of businesses go under. 90% of independently owned restaurants go under.
This can be for many reasons but the main one is that being a successful baker isn't just about your baking abilities but about your accounting, money management, ability to correctly estimate costs.
Luckily these days there are a lot of tools to help people track expenses and such.
It is something to think about.

Separating work from home is important! I've been WFH for two years now, recently a fam member came over and asked "does it feel weird that the office is next to your bed now?" and I realized _that_ was what was stressing me out without even being consciously aware. Did some rearranging, it helped a bit.
sorry for the long winded comment hahaha I just don't hear people mention that often! cake looks divine, of course 🤤👌

I used to be a Truck Driver In the Oil field... I averaged about $1500 a week take home. I have since become disabled, divorced, got married to my current husband, who was also a driver, his last job only brought in $1200 a week. Not bad when you own everrything out right!
But he was forced into retirement, so I am trying to earn enough to stay a float. I am not looking to do maybe 3-4 cakes a week if that. He helps, mostly just cleaning up after me, and keep stuff stocked or hands me stuff. He also helps around the house so I can focus on the cakes. We both loved Driving. It was both our passion most all our lives. And to lose it, crushed us both. But learning how to turn another Love and Passion into money has been awesome... Challenging but awesome...
Today I delivered a cake for a young man who just graduated the Marine Corps... The lady never ordered a custom cake, but said it was the best she ever had, and the design far exceeded her expectations.
Even though I know there are other, more experienced, better Baker's than myself, it really did help me understand, again I am where I need to be. And I may not be making Big big bucks, I can make enough to Survive

I feel like home baking is one of those things that sure it's possible to make a living but the amount of disruptions that it causes to your life (being stuck at home, always on the clock, never having room in your fridge/needing extra fridge, managing the business and finding a way to actually get customers to know about you) you might as well be working several full time jobs instead. Itll at least be less dishes that way.

It also depends on where you live - it may actually be illegal to make a living off of home baking. Not sure what Canada is like, but in the US there are cottage industry laws that allow for home baking with restrictions - for instance, in Michigan you can only sell products that are safe to store at at room temperature and there's also a yearly limit on how much you can make. That limit is well below what you can reasonably live off of
