Theres no language barrier with a pump action, everybody knows what "CHK-CHK" means

Pumps are especially good if you deal with various different types of loads or shells from a lot of different manufacturers.
A weaker load may not have the oomf to cycle a semi auto action for instance. Or if you like short shells, I’m not really sure if they’d be compatible with all semi autos either.

A pump action will typically just run pretty much anything that fits in the chamber. Semi autos tend to have issues with lower powered ammunition (which is what someone in a residential neighborhood might prefer for home defense). This was why the Spas-12 is swappable between pump and semi with the press of a button.

Pump actions have never let me down in the field or at the range. Semi automatic weapons are prone to jamming

It should also be noted, that while a pump shotty is less likely to have mechanical failure, you still won't be able to just pick it up and slamfire it like a Hollywood protagonist.

-aiming carefully still is a must

-low rate of fire comes with drawbacks
(so does the opposite)

-it is easy to have it fail on you by making relatively small mistakes like:

*not repeating the pump action all the way

*accidentally putting in a shell with the primer forwards

*being unfamiliar with controls and safety

All stuff that has a big influence and is heavily affected by adrenaline and pressure.

(happens even to trained members of law enforcement.)

I would still go for the pump all day because when someone here's that pump action, it sends a tingle down the spine and just adds to the fear factor

I prefer pump due to its ability to feed a wider variety of load types. Sure it may not be as fast but I feel more deliberate and accurate with it due to the fact that I have to manually cycle it.
