Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

It's too bad that the .22 Win Mag wasn't designed to chamber .22 lr/l/s. That would be an EXTREMELY versatile chambering in a lever-gun. Great for coyotes, even deer up close, on down to squirrel.

This is crazy ironic considering I had a 10 minute internal conflict at the range yesterday debating whether I should try this or not luckily I didn’t

I remember my father in law giving my son this lesson after he bought him his 22 long rifle. Solid and honest advice. I miss my father in law. He's fishing and hunting in heaven now.

I bought a 22 bolt action rifle at an auction one time. The auctioned it as a 22 rifle. Bought it for 75 dollars. Got it home and shot a few shells through it but had some kind of trouble. Then i looked on the barrel and it said 22 magnum. It was a marlin 22 magnum so i think i did alright on that deal.

Thank you for this information. Proper ammunition in the proper firearm is one key to safety.

That’s why the old Ruger Single Six had two cylinders. One for mag, one for short, long and long rifle. Bullet is the same diameter, case is not.

I have a Heritage Rough Ryder Rancher 22lr revolver carbine and bought the 22 mag interchangeable cylinder therefore I can shoot 22 mag and 22 lr out of the same carbine just by changing cylinders! 👌

The case of .22WMR is slightly tapered too

Concise, easy to understand explanation. Hopefully this serves as a good warning to people who may be considering doing this. Thank you for your time.

When I was a kid I had a river 10/22 22mag and we shot long rifle through it all the time. Literally probably thousands of rounds of long rifle through it and it never hurt it. It would malfunction every so often and yes there were a few split cases but overall never a problem. That’s a 10/22 for you though

Save your spent 22 magnum cases, Dremel, the rim from the magnum cases, the 22 long rifle will seat inside the 22 magnum case and fill the chamber. Then you can shoot the 22 long rifle through the 22 magnum case without chamber split.

This is the reason that revolvers that shoot .22 LR and the .22 Win Mag use interchangeable cylinders. But even so, in my experience, the accuracy suffers because there seems to be a slight difference in the diameter of the two .22 cal bullets.

when i was a kid, my dad bought a .22 savage rifle and we fired .22LR through it for years. never had a problem, extracted the cartridges fine for years, until one day i was looking it over and saw it said .22WMR on the barrel. never noticed it splitting cases because it always extracted fine.

I cut a hole in some spent 22 mag cases to adapt a regular. 22lr. Works wonderfully.

Good info. Would have never tried it. I don't play with calibers. I've known someone that fire formed some but he knew what he was doing. He had to fire form some of his rare calibers.

People who put the wrong ammunition in their firearms are probably the same people who hold fireworks in their hands
