Here is part 2 in my summer unhaul project. These are the first steps I take when getting rid of books. What do you do when you're done with a book?

Facebook Swap Groups:
The Book Swap - USA - This was changed to a private group. If you're interested I need to add you to the group. You can friend me on FB and message me there and I will add you. I think it can work that way. Sorry for the confusion!

I’ve been so lazy lately— I’ve just been taking my books to a little free library. I loved seeing your process!!

This made my morning! I love thrifting 📚 ! I am so looking forward to the advent book exchange, those are some of my favorite videos of the whole year!

I take my unhauled books to the little library's around my town. Although I tend to get more books at the little library's. Oh well I guess it just balances itself out. There are no used bookstores where I live, I tried selling my books to BAM, but it is an hour away and I barely got any money for it. I feel better donating my books to the little library's because I know someone is reading them rather than languishing on a shelf.

I love hauling ( it's like a little treasure hunt each time you go out ) and unhauling, I can't possibly keep them all .
They mostly go to friends or Little Free Libraries . I do wish we had a store that did buy backs.

Yep, I'm definitely one of those people who keep all the books they read. It's so bad, that if a friend wants to lend me a book, I buy it instead. 🙈 You are way more sensible than me!

When I finish a book that will be unhauled, it goes into one of four bags. 1-for my niece. 2-in the car for the little free libraries. 3-the used book store I frequent that only accepts paperbacks. 4-the used book store that takes anything (including empty journals, DVD’s, cd’s, school supplies) of which the profits go towards the Catholic grade school in town.

Usually when I reorganize my bookcase, I need more bookcases now...lol, that's when I unhaul and right now I have 8 books to unhaul, but there are 2 more I want to add to the pile. Mainly these are books that I am no longer interested or books my mom gave me thinking I might like or books given to my mom to give to me. Most of the time I get amazing books, but some are just meh. I have 2 right now that are duplicates so I am unhauling the paperback versions.

Normally, I give these books to my library, but I like your idea of having a sale, using Facebook or a used book store to get credit. Where I used to live there was only one used book store and didn't realize that these places will pay you for the books you don't want. So cool!

I am one of those that I keep most of the books I read, my mom, as she has gotten older no longer keeps them. She usually will give me her books mainly the horror and thrillers or the paranormal ones or she gives her books to a neighbor her loves to read. The only ones she does keep are her Mary Higgins Clark books. That is one of her favorite authors.

Hi Krista! Fun video! For me, my "unhaul" style depends on the type of book - for fiction I'll probably unhaul unless it was really good and I want to re-read or lend it to people. For non-fiction I'm much more likely to keep books because I often go back to refer to them. I'll only unhaul if I'm absolutely positive I'll never want to look at it again.

When I do unhaul, I usually donate the books to my local public library - they have a great book sale section (or they did, until COVID) and I am happy to support them with book donations. Until that gets up and running again, I've been donating some to little free libraries. There haven't been any at all near me until recently, and now suddenly this year two of them have sprung up within walking distance. Yay! :-)

Thank you for sharing your uhaul process! I mostly get my books from library book sales so I end up with a lot of books that I have still yet to read. After I am done reading a book I decide whether or not I think I would ever reread the book. If I think I might go back to it at some point, I keep it. If I dont think I will reread it I put it in a bag I have set aside for unhauling. The first thing I do is ask my friends if they would like any of the books I am getting rid of and let them take their pick if they are interested. Then I take the rest and distribute them in the Little Free Libraries around my town. I think people appreciate the rotation of books and the books I place within the LFL's are usually all taken by the next time I go back, so hopefully they are being enjoyed by others. I also try to keep a few books in my car for exchange in case I am driving through another town and spot a LFL that I'd like to look through.

I was always the type who never got rid of books. Though the last year, I'm inspired by all of you and I just am keeping the ones I love and would re-read, and those I plan to read. Don't get me wrong, still a very high amount of books but I've gotten rid of at least 70%of my books since January

Great job of unhauling your books. I only keep ones that I absolutely love. It isn’t as easy to unhaul books where I live especially now with the Covid pandemic. I have a used bookstore 2 doors down from where I live but they are super picky about what books they take. They have to be only 1 year old or less ie: currently they will only accept books that are 2019 and later. If the soft cover is out on shelves they won’t accept hard covers etc. I have a pile to unhaul which will go to charity. Thanks for sharing.

I don't really like keeping books unless I am sure I will re-read. They just stack up so fast!

I have just begun a home library but so far I've decided to unhaul books that I rated less than 3 stars but I'll probably end up only keeping 4-5 star books once I run out of space. I also like having mostly unread books on my shelves!

I once had approximately 1, 000 books on my shelves, many of which I had not read. I became anxiety-ridden and advertised them. I gave them all away (except for some I didn't want to get rid of. Needless to say I am now devastated that I did that, quite apart from the fact that I have bought the equivalent number since then. That taught me a lesson. I will not easily part with any books, read or unread, because if they are good books they might warrant a second reading. Books that don't thrill me, like Gone Girl and such like I will give them away to a street library, but otherwise no. You said it was fun looking around book stores. For me they are magnets and I cannot pass one without buying something.

I barely have any books on my shelves. I think maybe like 15 books are on my physically owned tbr. Once I finish a book, I usually put it in a pile and then decide if I donate it to the library or put it in a little free library. I only keep a book if I really like it and plan to reread it someday. Otherwise it gets donated somewhere.

2nd and Charles sounds like such a wonderful store I wish I had one here in Milwaukee or in one of the nearby cities.

I only have 12 unread books on my shelves. I am very indecisive and if I have too many to choose from I get overwhelmed. I use my library a lot for new releases. I love shopping for used books but a lot of the library sales in my state happen in the summer and have been cancelled because of covid!
