Hi! My name is Leonie and I am a 23 year old girl who loves talking about books! From YA to non-fiction to classics, I read it all (although fantasy will always be my fave). I live in the Netherlands and go to university, but make booktube videos in my spare time :)

one way you can keep memories attached to the book and not keep the book is using a reading journal, and not only take notes about the book itself, but also of the reading process! great video, love your content!

I say go with keeping the 4-5 star ratings on your shelves and then slowly build up a beautiful full library of only books you adore. That's my dream library, books that have memories, but also were books I truly loved.

I relate so hard to the feeling of keeping a book just so that people will think I am wellread when they see I have it 🤦‍♀️

I also struggle with the want to have a wall of bookshelves filled with books but I realized I had a lot that I knew I would never pick up again so it felt pointless to keep them. But I still kinda want a personal library. It's a constant struggle

book recommandation to spinning silver/uprooted: The Winternight trilogy (The Bear and the nightingale) by Katherine Arden! Russian folklore/history, soft magic, ATMOSPHERIC, perfect for winter, mc that you will root for etc. The 1st book is slow but the rhythm pick ups for the 2nd and 3rd. All the books are around 300 pages so you won’t get discouraged. One of my favourite series💕

My heart hurt a little when you unhauled Night Film, but, on the other hand, I am starting to calculate how long certain books have been sitting on my shelves, and I need to have an honest conversation with myself about my desire to read those books. LOL!

It's amazing how we can attach memories to books! I feel that so much!

I also got the Harry Potter book set as a present. I never read books when I was younger but I knew people that read HP books at that time. Reading them as an adult I truly loved it and understood a lot of the things the movies did not cover. So to me, the nostalgia came from the movies and after reading the books, I fell in love with the wizarding world even more. English is not my first language so please excuse any mistakes.

Honestly, I dont see why people are so obsessed with giving away or selling so many of their books even if they'd rather keep a larger personal library. Like, its okay to collect books! Thats not a flaw and its not irresponsible.

One way to "detach" from storing the physical item but still recall the memory is to take a picture (much smaller and can be stored digitally). You could start a Word document on your computer including the pictures there along with a paragraph about the memory.

I have so much nostalgia for the Harry Potter books, but I honestly don’t think I’d be able to read them for the first time as an adult and knowing everything I do about JKR now. So I completely see where you’re coming from.

Leonie, this was the video I didn't know I was waiting for! Thanks. You're a hero of mine--not just being able to read so much for enjoyment while excelling at academic pursuits, but being open and honest with us. I hope you are well and your summer is winding down well! Just remember Lear's plea: "Deny not nature more than nature's needs/Man's life as cheap as beasts!"

Have you looked into Matt Larkin's "Cycle of Eschaton" series? There's multiple. "Gods of the Ragnarok Era" tells a grittier, human-based retelling of the apocalypse myths of the Norse, then "Tapestry of Fate" is a prequel series based on Greek mythology, and "Queens of Mana" a sequel series based on Polynesian mythology. I think you'd like it.

I recently sold a bunch of my books as well and it made me so incredibly happy to see how excited the buyers were to receive them!

Hey!! The Bear and the Nightingale has very similar vibes to Novak’s whimsical nature-y fairytales with a darker twist!
