Protecting the Planet from Martian Microbes

NASA's Perseverance rover is actively searching for Martian life to bring back home. But given out track record of keeping things in quarantine, is that really a good idea? A (sortof) single-take exploration of aliens, astrobiology, and testing how many sci-fi movies references can I make in 8 minutes.

Bonus points if you can guess how many takes this took to film. Turns out that splitting it into three actually made it HARDER than the last time we tried this!

smh couldn't even be bothered to go to mars to film on location.
Jokes aside, i'm impressed with the narration and the transitions. Dude's new on youtube and already rivaling tom scott.

Wow okay, I'm honestly not sure whether to be more astonished at the visual effects or your ability to do such long takes (I will say I loved all the Minecraft references though!)

The transitions, floating movie names - everything about this video was so well done!

I spent 35 years producing tv and you're one of the best I've seen. Kudos.

"Yeet back home". Liked immediately. Also some very smooth transitions! The timing would have probably taken quite some takes I assume. Stellar video as usual.

“Keep looking up” is the coolest damn signout I’ve ever heard.

6:56 Absolute pro how you continued talking whilst almost falling over 👏

James is stepping over the log, Julien is just smoothly hovering over them. Amazing camera work!

I'd heard about clean rooms for the outbound equipment, but not considered the return. Very interesting, thank you.

Gorgeous cinematography and excellent presenting skills. This is by far the best production value per subscriber channel on Youtube. Hope that you get more attention soon

Every video I watch on this channel makes me glad that I followed Tom Scott's recommendation to sub here.

This channel is criminally under-subscribed. Great video, thanks for making it - and damn, those transitions!

That transition at 2:38 was one of the cleanest things I've ever seen on Youtube. Immediately preceded by Perseverance, which is probably the single cleanest thing I've seen on Youtube, so well played.

Edit: And the 5:49 one as well. Serious respect to whoever does the editing on your videos.

This kid is going places... literally in most of the videos I've watched and figuratively, in terms of the business. His videos have some of the best production I've seen this side of a BBC documentary. It also helps that the topics are interesting and seem well researched.

What an amazing video I'm so happy that in the last couple of months you've gained the recognition you deserve, the quality, which was already very good is now even better, and the content always is so interesting. Thank you so much and keep going forward, or looking up, as you wish :)

It's so surreal finding a YouTuber based in the city I live in that makes this type of content. Never have I clicked on a Tom Scott video before and gone bro that's where I walk my dog

The fact that he said "yeet back home" makes me happy

The production on this video is incredible. I kept losing track of what you were saying because I was so impressed with the visuals. Had to rewind so I could relisten. Really brilliant work by James and Julian!
