When Asuka jumps up out of the water doing flips and dodging missiles, with the heavenly chorus of voices in the background is honestly one of my favourite moments in the movie. So cinematic.

What somehow manages to pleasantly surprise me(aside from Asuka's glee, of course) is _Maya's enthusiasm and hope_ when EVA-02 becomes berserk. That young woman has seen so many things (see her reaction to Shinji being forced to almost kill Toji), that even her sensitivity indirectly makes her a hero. And, arguably, the most likeable and psychologically "normal" character from the series.

Asuka really stepped up here. Not that she was bad in the series, but she was selfish in a way. She cared about herself and how people saw her. Here that didn't matter. She knew that it didn't matter anymore. She didn't need others praise and admiration to substitute her mother's because she was always with her

This track sounds like what it feels it no longer be running against the wind, but running with it behind you, pushing you forwards.

That’s exactly what happened with asuka, her synch rates with the Eva were plummeting because she was torn up emotionally, she was fighting against the Eva when she controlled it, she called it her doll and told it to do whatever she says, but in this scene she realises that her mum is the evas soul, and that soul is what creates the at field that protects her. Shes truly at one with herself, her mother and her Eva in this scene and we get to see it and hear it in this track.

Just listen to how spectacular and major the beginning chorus chords are and how anxious the strings during and right after. False regeneration, false courage, false hope. Literally the power and courage before an inevitable death. Wild scene.
