This song has chilled me to the core. The song itself isn’t horrifying. Its not the music, its what it was played over. Shinji’s mind falling apart, SEELE’s ritual, etc. Its why a chill went down my spine when hearing this in 3.0+1.0 (i believe the track is called Mirror Mirror: refrain)

If you only listen to the angelic voice, you'd think you listen to something heavenly. But then you look at the lyrics and realise it's a sacrificial ritual. It honestly can't be eerier than this.

This feels very lovecraftian, I feel like this wouldn't be out of place in an HP lovecraft movie at a scene where the protagonist witnesses something ethereal and impossible. Something so beautiful and yet so incomprehensibly terrifying.

The fact that Gendo and SEELE were literally working towards the destruction of Shinji’s ego. To literally plan out events and force his own son Shinji to lose people to the point that he’s tormented, so that SEELE can unleash the third impact, and Gendo can be joined with Yui. To each his own way, it just shocked me when I realized that. Gendo planned out Shinji using the dummy to destroy Toji’s EVA. Gendo planned Shinji killing Kowaru. All of that. Gendo planned Rei’s sacrifice. That’s why their was a suspension placed on EVA 01 so that only Asuka and Rei could fight angels.
