Bodybuilders Blueprint On How To Train For MASS

Today we're covering a bodybuilders blueprint on how to train for muscle mass because it's very different than how most people workout.

I saw a video in my feed today that sparked the idea for this topic because I realized just how differently I think compared to most fitness professionals. I think it comes from years of competing and hours spent in the gym trying to figure out the absolute BEST way to train to pack on muscle and after years of this I came to a very different conclusion that most everyone else.

What I found is that it's not about the compound movement that most people preach, it's about finding ways to really isolate the muscles you want to grow and attack them - really force them to grow.

Try this for yourself and report back, I would be shocked if your results aren't similar to mine in that you get a lot more growth out of really isolating the muscle.

About 2 month ago I started to do what he said: isolate and focus on the mind-muscle connection and really pushing myself to do 1 more rep on every set even if it took me 10 seconds to make that rep... I have really seen a great improvement - specially my pecs after I traded the benchpress for cable flies...
Thanks Sir. Finally I feel like Im getting value from my gym membership...

Hey Ryan, your disdain for fitness influencers warms my heart. And I believe we don't say this enough but you're funny and we appreciate your efforts.

“Smuggling around 2 ziploc bags of gravy”. Lmao. This is part of the reason why I subscribed to this channel. The tutorials, tips and advice are great but the wise cracking is an added bonus.

Your right about mass - isolation, volume pump.
What a lot of people don’t understand is there are 3 ways to build a muscle.
1)Mass - “Stress” the muscle with isolation, pump, volume. Flood the muscle with blood, oxygen, nutrients, etc. This is your shortcut to size. (8-12 rep range)
2)Density - “tension” the muscle by slowing the reps, time under tension, range of motion. This is how your muscles get harder, more solid. (5-7 rep range)
3)Strength -“trauma” your muscles into growth by creating micro-tears, overall recruitment, Central nervous system overload. This is where compound movements make huge ground. This is your route to PR’s and numbers and overall strength.
(3-5 rep range)
Train the first two methods (mass and density) back and forth for 6-9 weeks. Then go to a 4 week “fight phase.” This is what you “train” for. This is now the strength “performance” phase.
This is how you build lasting Muscle.

Come back after 10-12 weeks and tell me where you made gains.

Ryan thanks you taught me about not letting the muscle rest between sets and I've never trained better after learning that. Before I would sit for 3 minutes because I saw a "science based" video about that never got sore or grew. Now I'm getting excellent results and without exception always sore the next day. It's so damn satisfying pushing my limits every time, and with no ego lifting involved. Its incredible

Preach the gospel, brother. I've been taking your methods to the gym and getting results. Better than at least the last 3 years going 5X5.

Great advice. I have found that if I work my biceps first, and then do a compound exercise like rows for my back, it forces my back to take on more of the load. Same goes for triceps and chest. So this advice makes a lot of sense. I tend to mix up my workouts a bit using Ryan's videos and so far the results have been great. Thanks for all the work you put into your videos Ryan!

Narrowed it down to drop sets on isolation exercises for me.
The results have been fantastic.
There is a place for compound lifts but they are not the be all and end all of training.

Now going into my 50’s I am finding that isolation work with light weight till failure is more helpful than compound workout with heavy weight.

I’m doing isolation work with light weight for two weeks. Third week I’m going heavy. I am seeing results. The plus side is I’m feeling more energized like I was thirty years ago.

Thanks for your advise. Keep them coming.

I am proud of u. I told many strong men to stop gossip about others. They come across as gossipy women. Lifting is not just for muscle building it is a lesson in composing your personality and a healthy attitude. The few popular ones have tainted this beautiful activity. The greed has turned them into very weird creatures. You are doing mighty well.

I agree with you Ryan. Im doing mostly isolation work, especially for my arms with high reps (15-30reps) it's brutally painful but my arms grew 2/3 if an inch in 2 months. That's thanks to you! Would love to see your favorite isolation exercises for every muscle group.

No cap this man changed my life, my arms never really grew for like 2 years after I started training. And I did everything mainstream said, heavy compound sets, supersets, slow eccentrics, I dont know how many programs I followed for months only to get stronger but not get that mass. Eventually I started focusing on isolation work and getting in atleast 20 reps per set (which mainstream always told me was for endurance) like Ryan suggests and boom the rest is history

I totally agree with you - I see a few bodybuilding channels that often put down other channels by name. There is no need for that negativity, and using other people's names to increase search rank while damaging their reputations is a low, unethical and selfish marketing tactic. Thank you for all your honest, hard work. Your channel is my favorite.

One of the only if not the only fitness channels that makes me laugh at the jokes. Everyone tries to be too serious or tell lame jokes. I've been working out for over half of my life. And trust me when I tell you it's not that serious. I've dead lift squatted well over 500 and benched at least 405. And all that stuff does it tear your body down. Enjoy your workouts or you won't be doing them long.
