Carlos Norman Hathcock II was a Marine sniper who fought in the Vietnam War, with a record of 93 confirmed kills, but he believed he eliminated between 300 and 400 enemy soldiers.

The Viet Cong nicknamed him "White Feather," because of a white feather he carried in his bush hat. Carlos Hathcock's accomplishments in the war, and the extraordinary details of the missions he accomplished, made him a legend.

The sniper's most legendary and deadly mission, was when he spent 3 days crawling among his enemies, to eliminate a General of the Viet Cong Army. In this spectacular mission, the General was eliminated, with a shot to the chest from 710 yards away. That was the only time he removed the white feather from his hat.

In another legendary mission, he hunted down and killed a Viet Cong sniper, known as the "Apache Woman", who had a reputation for torturing captured American soldiers to death.

He saved 7 Marines from a burning vehicle, and suffered burns that ended his career.

He died in 1999, due to complications from multiple sclerosis.

Remember, every time you see a sniper shoot through the enemies scope in a movie, this man ACTUALLY did it.

His boss, Jim Land, said what set Carlos apart was his woodsmanship. Plus, he was a dead shot. Just a good ol boy from bless

It wasn't the number of confirmed kills.. but the innovative way he accomplished his sniping which proved legendary... His strategies and tactics formed the basis for the Marine Scout Sniper School .

This man proved the M-14. An amazing man who pioneered modern sniper. Can you imagine after eliminating the NVA general. His soldiers fanned out looking for Carlos. Two times the NVA soldiers came within 3 feet of him. An Amazing man. I have built several M-14's to Carlos's specifications. Since then several gunsmiths have made improvements on this rifle. Now the latest Rifle is based on the 270 bullet that will develop 80, 000 psi chamber pressure. This combination will make the 277 SIG Fury the sniper rifle for every infantryman. A lot of American, South Korean, Austrailian, British soldiers were saved by Carlos Heathcock's snipes. Carlos deserves the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Not many people scared the VC but they were definitely afraid of him.

plus, the sniper shot, of all sniper shots... the one Hollywood touches on in movies, .. the round through the enemy sniper's scope, who was actually hunting him, and was a split second away from taking him out. His spotter said that nobody was going to ever believe what he did that day. RIP Sgt. Hathcock.. you set the bar. SEMPER FI

Michelle Bruce a gunner with the coast guard recently passed away. She claimed over 100 kills protecting us from drug smugglers. Working from a coast guard helicopter she would shoot out the motors of fastboats that did not c omply with coast gaurd orders. When they shot at the chopper she took them out. She was from Riverdale GA.
