When a person doesn't get what they need from another human being, they find other ways of getting emotional fulfillment. Instead of laughing at people that take this approach, we should acknowledge the reasons we're becoming increasingly more disconnected from each other and how this is being exposed through the evolution of AI.

Getting AI to communicate like a deceased partner was literally the plot of a black mirror episode!

This just reminds me of the episode from black mirror in the episode a widow used AI to bring back her husband to life and had a breaking point when she realized the robot she purchased will never be her husband since he had his unique tendacies while the robot was just programmed to replicate him

I think the problem isn't only about the AIs getting more power, its about the mere fact that people can live with AI friends and girlfriends. Meaning it is easier nowadays to have a strong and stable relationship with a robot than with a real human being. This says a lot about the world we live in today.

Honestly AI technology always has 2 sides to it, the other side is that there are AI girlfriend companies like Muah AI who focuses a lot of on solving the issue of depression and lonliness, who are working with professional psychologists to bring a positive light with AI. Of course, what brings positive can also bring negative downsides when abused.

Sounds like the problem is severe depression and mental health issues than the AI itself.

I can't blame them. We live in a society where looks, height and wealth is placed on a pedestal. Love and community unfortunately, is looked down upon in this materialistic society.
Loneliness and depression from constant rejections will drive many to fall for these chatboxs.

Look, this was fully expected. We live in a society which disincentivizes any form of human interaction outside of work/school. Nowadays less and less people want to deal with drama and anxiety that comes with building and maintaining relationships. Personally I'll try to avoid using AI chatbots, because it's not the same as a real person, but I respect the rights of others if they want to.

I think this issue is a good example of a bigger issue with society. People are more isolated than ever, and the loneliness that comes with that is pushing people to find avenues to get the emotional closeness and intimacy they desire. It's a basic human desire to feel loved and connected, and since, for many people, such things are hard to come by, they resort to using these types of apps to fill the holes. As good as modern technology is, I think we're gonna see an increase in cases like this - and it's likely to get worse.

The problem with artificial intelligence is not artificial intelligence itself, but the use that a person can make of it, such as chatbots and various similar sites.

the core of the problem is how people are so disjointed from one another that it's hard for them to bear their soul to someone else and have genuine connection. AI companions to those users, are a safe space and judgement-free zones.

I feel like people should talk more about how romance and love is portrayed in an unrealistic way in media and literature. Like the popularity of these AI friends and partners is in part due to the fact that people have unrealistic expectations for their partner that a normal human cant live up to
