Hey everyone! Just curious, how many of you have played Splatoon 1?

Somebody had pointed out that the Wii U was actually released 2012, after I had said 2011. First off, thanks so much for catching that mistake. I got mixed up because a Wii successor was ANNOUNCED in early 2011. Which ended up being the Wii U, but it was not officially released until late 2012. My intentions weren’t to confuse anyone and it was genuine mistake. Again, thanks to @RyneMcKinney for watching the video and keeping me on point.

I remember my dad would rent games on the Wii U, and if we really liked one of them, he would maybe get it, and I LOVED splatoon, so as a surprise my dad got me it, and that was one of the most played games on my Wii U, then I got a switch, then splatoon 2, then splatoon 3, and now, Wii U services are shutting down, and I’ll never be able to play splatoon 1 online again.

but since splatoon 1 is ending (online wise) this vid does a great job reflecting on how we got the franchise we all love and know today

I put so many hours into Splatoon 1, so to see this video explaining the history of how it started brought back a lot of bittersweet memories. Splatoon 3 has been a blast and I’m happy that it tries to be a mix of the old and the new through returning stages and Inkopolis!

Man, it's kinda wild seeing how different and unfinished splatoon's premise was just weeks before they showed off the game for the first time. Splatoon's mechanics feel so unified and cohesive (shoot to paint the ground and swim through it, swim up walls, hide in ink, etc.), but we were so close to getting something completely different.

Kinda makes sense now why ARMS did so poorly. Obviously Nintendo was hoping to replicate the success of Splatoon, but a large part of that was the disparate mechanics coming together last-minute to create this lightning-in-a-bottle idea for a game. With ARMS I think they were banking on that again and it just didn't happen.

I remember seeing the trailers for this game and i told my sister if she could get it for me, and she did and i loved the hell out of it. if it wasnt for her i wouldnt be a splatoon fan rn. Ive put tons and tons of hours in the first game and Itll always have a special place in my heart. Its gonna hit hard after the online shuts down.

I Recently got a wii u for my birthday at the end of january, i was excited to play splatoon, 2 days later i found out that nintendo was closing their wii u servers, seriously i felt so horrible, they were pretty much selling a scam at this point with the miiverse getting removed too, just because they arent promoting it anymore doesnt mean that they can just sell a product that is only half true at such a high price.

To think that my purchase of a Wii U so i could play Wind Waker HD because i never had a Gamecube when that came out ended up making me love Splatoon a whole lot.

I still remember when it was revealed and i was like "Looks neat, not my kind of game though" and then the testfire happened and the moment it ended?
Went straight to the mall to preorder the game at my local EBGames (When it was still called EBGames in Canada) and even got the shirt before the game came out.

I've got 920 hours of play time racked up on Splatoon 1.

Splatoon 2 gets announced, i preordered the game and i didn't even have a Switch at all! I got the Switch literally a month before Splatoon 2 came out and the second game was meh?
Always felt like it was rushed to market and that Splatoon 3 is the better game to play.
