8HP50/70 vs DCT Transmission Swaps for N54 BMW

Our 8-bolt N54 135i started out as a 6HP automatic, went to a manual, and is now going even faster by swapping in a 8HP50 ZF 8 speed transmission from a F series B58 BMW. This transmission is extremely comparable to the DCT when controlled by the HTG gearbox control unit. We are adapting the bellhousing using a custom ADAMAT adapter we offer on our website, link below. This adapter works for both the B58 based gas and diesel transmissions. By using the CAN BUS the car will not really know the transmission is there and work like normal. Stay tuned for more updates.

I was all for save the manuals but my next BMW (in addition to the manual M3) will definitely be a ZF8A it’s SO perfect

8hp has pretty damn fast up shifts but down shifting is okay. It's annoying dropping multiple gears on decel. I had it tuned which greatly improved its behavior. However its not predictable enough for me to push my f30 to the limit. I feel like a bit off padding is needed just incase it doesn't down shift exactly when I want or for having to ask it to down shift again...

If only the Turbo lamik controller was more easy to buy as it is a much better controller then HTG, theyve killed many boxes on popular swaps because of clutch adaptions.

depending on how far i go with my 08 cl63 amg, i may try and see if i can get an 8hp in there. im just trying to find a cool widebody kit for it, or see how i could go about having somebody do a custom metal widebody on it.

if not im going to get a dct 135i sell the n55 and put an ls in there, with a blower and keep the dct.

4:19 No, Mercedes doesn't use 8HP, they have their own transmissions (7G, 9G-Tronic).

i sent my htg controller back becuase it was dogshit and didnt have open loop tuning. almost ruined my 15k dollars pure drivetrain solutions transmission. had to be completely taken apart and frictions replaced. turbolamik tcu 2.0 is lightyears better. just my honest 2 cents.. its a year later and i only got a shifter and some paddles for my $1600 refund.

even with my bad experience with HTG, ive been told they have fixed the bugs and now their system does work but i cant reccomend it until i see one in person because mine was FUCKED.

you can buy 8hp75 for 600 dollars shipped from ebay uk. the 8hp50 and 8hp75 have identical internal gearing when you run a 3.31 final drive on the 8hp75.

i make the adapter and a90 converter adapter to use with 8hp75. im in so cal. if you have someone to machine a few sets, ill send the cad files. if you use the 8hp70 converter, it weighs twice what the a90 converter does and you cant get good response from it, revving the big converter above 7k is also dangerous lol. ive spent so much money breaking these transmissions over the last 3 years doing this swap. if there is anything you guys need parts or tuning etc let me know, im always down to help .

So what’s keeping you guys from using an 8HP45? As far as I can tell they seem to be able to hold the power as well as the 2nd and 3rd gen boxes and are just as good in terms of responsiveness.

I heard that the DCT is slower from a dig than the stock 6hp in an e90 335i. Is this true and why?

So I have my hands on a 8hp45 from a 335i. I own a 2011 335i xdrive n55. Could I swap this transmission for under $1k and maybe only 10 hours of labor?

Any reason why you went with an 8HP50 w/ adapter plate instead of just going with an N55 8HP45 that bolts right up to the n54? I've been looking into this swap and a pure drivetrain solutions 8HP45 seems like it makes the most sense to go with in the States unless there's some major difference between the 45 and 50 that makes it a better transmission that I'm not aware of.

I’ve been looking for a more modern solution to the SMG in my M5. The manual swap is where the money is because of the “save the manuals” purists, but frankly boring. I like the idea of a DCT, or the 8 speed. From what I gather it’s never been done successfully with the S85. Do you make adapters for the S85?

I want to put a 8hp50 into my e53 at some point with a VF supercharger kit to mimic a x5 Le Mans with the power-weight ratio at least. Do you supply m54 adapter plates?
