I actually knit with a hank as is the other day! I forgot to wind my yarn before packing my lunch time work project, and with nothing else to do I decided to attempt to make it work.

I hung the loop off my car visor 😹 it worked! I did have to unwind bits of yarn at a time, and that showed me down a bit, but I didn’t tangle it at least!

And when I got home I cut the yarn off and made myself a nice little cake instead.

So if you’ve gotta knit, you only have a hank, and you have a car, it just might be crazy enough to work!

For anyone new out there, you can center-wind yarn balls too. Much less likely to roll away if you pull from the center.

I make a cake from a skein of yarn. Knit or crochet from the outside as I don't like the ball collapsing on itself.

If I have old balls from years ago before I got a winder, I stick the ball in a ziploc with an inch open, works great and can stick it he needles / hooks in the bag too…in the purse it goes.
