Dr. Berg interviews Vicki Bales Humble about her success on the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting.

Before she started keto, her cholesterol was fairly high. She never had a weight problem growing up, and then gained weight having children but always lost it quickly. When she was in her mid-twenties, she started losing weight at an extreme rate and her mother was worried, so she took her to the doctor where she found her thyroid was shutting down. Once her thyroid stopped working she gained weight and the doctors put her on Synthroid and made her feel like a zombie, all she wanted to do was sleep, sleep, and sleep some more. Medications tend to not work but after the doctors played around with the dose, she finally said forget it "I would rather be fat and happy than skinny and a zombie." Fast forward to her late 40s and here she is still overweight. She started Keto on May 27, 2017, and she lost 78 pounds. She was a size 18/20 and now a size 6/8, LDL 94 HDL 96 Triglycerides 53 and guess what? Her thyroid is NOW WORKING!! She lost 27 pounds.

I NEVER EXPERIENCED KETO FLU. MAYBE THERE WAS SOME TIREDNESS BUT IT WAS SHORT LIVED. I WAS NOT A BIG COFFEE DRINKER. I DID LIKE MAYBE 3 CUPS A DAY UNTIL I STARTED KETO AND THEN I DID THE BUTTER AND COCONUT OIL ONCE A DAY IN THE MORNING. I LOVE THE KETOGENIC LIFESTYLE. IT HAS GIVEN ME MORE YEARS TO ENJOY MY LIFE. THANK YOU DR. BERG.

Thats so true what she is saying. I dont have a gall bladder either and i have been on keto for 2 months and feel fantastic. Only when i eat high carbs I get really sick to my stomach. So far i lost 20lbs. Im happy with keto just for the reason that i can eat and not get sick.

Thanks so much for posting this! I have been dealing with thyroid issues for the last year, but started Keto in April and have never felt better. However, lately been researching topics of keto and thyroid, and there is a lot of negative feedback out there; some saying that doing keto with hypothyroidism tanks the thyroid function. However, as I research further some experts on the topic are saying that it's not keto that is tanking the thyroid, but it is the person not eating enough calories while on Keto that makes the thyroid function less than optimal. So my question is - if I were to start implementing intermittent fasting in my Keto lifestyle, is there a recommended safe way to do this for hypothyroidism without tanking the thyroid. I.e. if you, say, eat a caffeine/MCT oil drink for breakfast, fast all day, then wait to eat at dinner time would you then eat an entire plate of 1500-1700 calories as to not deplete yourself of calories? P.S. I just ordered your book, I'm very excited to read. I have been using your gallbladder formula and also pretty much stalking your youtube channel for months. So helpful.

when i started looking at my diet and comparing what dr berg recommends as 'high fat' i was eating enough fat already, just too many carbs. i think it can be a problem to get into keto and add a bunch of fat without taking stock of what you are already consuming. i'm just reducing or removing starches and will occasionally add a bit more healthy fat to tide me over. i'm not smothering and slathering everything though. my tummy hurts when i do that. plus a big step for people would be to swap out the unhealthy fats in their existing diet for healthier ones. like pastured dark meat, avocado, olive oil, etc.

Thank you I don't have a gallbladder either and this is day four for me I have no issues with fat! Its amazing intermittent fasting and keto! 2 slices of bacon and 2 scrambled eggs with cheese at noon and huge mixed spring salad avocado tomatoes and cukes and fresh lemon juice and a 3-6 oz grilled hamburger pattie or chicken or pork chop and or fish around 5-6 o"clock and I am good to go for the day! Also Pellegrino sparkling mineral waters through out day and apple cider vinegar two to three times per day. Coffee with heavy cream and stevia or with no sweetner but with cinnamon or vanilla first thing after I get up. I am already loosing inches! I am a size 3x and I have to loose about a 110 pounds to go. I am very excited and now that I have my meals down pat. I am looking forward to getting the real me back chasing my grandchildren around and taking long walks and getting my life back.

I am 50 as well. I have to get on this. I lived a Keto lifestyle in my 20s - way before it was so popular and felt amazing (I just did it as extreme Atkins) it kept me super slim. Everything is slowing down and it seems my joints are very unhappy right now. I have an issue, I tried Keto, a very strong try, I know a lot about nutrition..I made bullet proof coffee every day and everything too...I had an issue, it's delicate to talk of - constipation and I am super regular and awesome, so that would always make me feel unhealthy and scare me...is it lack of magnesium? Please someone help me out here. I need to do Keto, but I have fears of the constipation. I drink loads of water...even more on Keto...10 8 oz of alkaline water every day so...it's not that. Thanks.

When fasting, do you recommend and suggest drinking liquids or not?

My thyroid and adrenals tanked on keto around the 5th month. I am currently trying to recover from it eating a moderate amount of carbs. I missketo A LOT. I do think I was eating little calories for my body size. Dr. Berg would you recommend I go back on keto and be more mindful or my calories? Should I avoid fasting for my thyroid? I need help doc, I don't like the thought of staying on carbs.
