CINCINNATI (WKRC) - New research says what's on your menu might make a bigger difference than we previously thought.

This study in the journal Lancet now links one in five deaths to poor diet. It appears that even what we are eating when we think we are eating healthy foods might not be enough to keep us well.

The study looked at recent dietary trends in nearly 200 countries in the last three decades. Researchers wanted to see if there was a connection between diet and chronic disease.

Just recently, they found diets low in whole grains, fruit, nuts and seeds and high in trans-fats, sugary drinks and red and processed meats combined for roughly 11 million deaths worldwide. Ten million of those deaths were attributed to heart disease, followed by cancer and type 2 diabetes.
