Here is an updated "How To Wind A Mechanical Watch" video

To wind a mechanical watch

1. If it is not a screw down crown then simply turn the crown Clockwise (looking directly at the crown). If it is a screw down crown, unscrew it then turn the crown.

2, After winding the watch set the time (and other complications --date, day, ect.. If it has it. )

3. Push or screw crown back down

If the watch is an automatic, meaning self winding, then it is not necessary to wind the watch fully. You may only need to wind it a little to get it going. Then you can set the time (and other complications --date, day, ect.. If it has it. ) The automatic watch will continue to wind itself as you are wearing it.

A mechanical watch will run until the power reserve runs out.

An Automatic watch will run forever as long as you continue to wear it-- it will always be wound.

Hoped this helped

thanks for watching

I know it may seem dumb but the video really helped and prevented what could have been a $2050 goof up on my end. Thanks!!

Cheap or expensive, mechanical watches are the soulful gems. I got one, the Chinese made Forsining (automatics).

I've been informing myself about mecanich/automatic watches (I've acquired two nice Fossil ones) and before giving them propper use I'm learning about them all I can. I've been watching several videos and this is the first time someone mentions that if I give it too many turns to the crown when winding it, it will be broken. So, thanks for that.

good vid, was winding it felling for the tension of when it would indicate for me to stop winding it, wasnt happening for a while so i was getting confused, then the crown started to resists my winding, until it was obvious i'd reached the point that it was fully wound. excellent video

Don't keep winding until it doesn't wind anymore, that's overwinding. You also don't want to do quick rotations like that, it'll damage the mechanics....
