Thank you!!! Manually rotating the watch actually made the watch work. I don’t know why when I tried winding the watch from the crown it wouldn’t but this actually worked when I tried it on a watch I presumed non working.

Here's some more tips:

Some can't be wound manually. Only via motion.
Also you can't over wind an automatic. Once it's fully wound it disengages to prevent damage.

However you can overwind a manual mechanical watch. You just wind it until you feel resistance then stop.

I have a mechanical watch, but the mechanism is so smooth that it does not make a sound as I wind it. I just feel a slight resistance as I get to the end of the wind.
