As of 1.19, zero tick is BACK BABY! Sort of... they’re not as reliable as the old ones. Couple things I’ve noticed:
1. Don’t use red sand, it no likey red sand for some reason. Only use regular sand.
2. Try to chunk align it. There’s various, easy ways to find chunk borders, many right here on YouTube. I built one that’s 12 pistons long, as long as all the redstone is in the same chunk, it works well.
3. Don’t go far from the farm while it’s running, either the kelp or sand attached to the sticky pistons tend to break if you’re running around doing other things, even if you remain within simulation distance.
4. Last, but definitely the MOST IMPORTANT THING, the farm does NOT like when whatever you’ve attached to it, be it smokers or composters, are running at the same time. It breaks within seconds of activating it. The fix I’ve found is to shut off whatever you have it going into until the storage system you build to house the metric ton of kelp this thing produces is full.
Example: in my case, I have a 12 piston long farm. I’ve put a double chest attached to each hopper collecting the kelp, then 2 more sets of hoppers and chests, so that’s 36 double chests total.
I then have 6 smokers with levers on the front so I can shut them off, and 6 composters. Since you can’t place a lever on a composter or a hopper, place a block in front of the hoppers that go into the composters, then put a lever on the block. Power the lever on to lock the hopper until you’re ready to smelt or compost.

So yea, they’re definitely more finicky than the old ones, but if you’ve got a decent storage system you should be able to AFK for a bit with no issues.

Hey for anyone who wants to try this I recommend that you get rid of the observer and just make another red stone clock for the top pistons and just make them on a slower rotation it will break but all you have to do is replant the kelp and watch it

Oh by the way it's not 0 tick its now One tick and you can't use observers to break it won't grow more than one block. So they kinda nerfed it.

Btw if it's breaking for u then place a repeater on 2 ticks in between the 3 redstone coming from the observer

This still works for 1.21.2 the only thing is that you don't get a lot of exp

The kelp keeps breaking every time I turn it on. Any tips? This is the 2nd farm I have built. I had one about a year ago and it used to work fine.
