As the movie "Oppenheimer" opens across America, Alex Wellerstein - Historian of Nuclear Weapons at Stevens Institute of Technology - gives his perspective on a man he has studied his entire career.

I heard he was a great teacher and could present physic problems in layman's terms, was interesting and his classes filled up quickly.

My favorite dialogue of his was when asked about the possibility of America being nuked and what tool to use to deter it, to which RJO responded a "screwdriver"... to open all suitcases at transport terminals.

Oppenheimer even in interviews give s clear and well thought out answer to a question. He is very astute but in away everyone can understand and relate to.

Its kind of funny how there are great people who hope that devastating demonstrations would deter wars, ex the gatling gun. But I think there is an inevitable nature to violence but you can create ways to avoid violence its more a matter of chance and nuance rather than absolutes. I do see the point that Oppenheimer made of the spectacular nature of the bomb and the reasoning is good as having the idea of just small radioactive wastelands everywhere is pretty devastating.

I am still of the opinion that a huge nuclear test should be conducted in the mid west of America today. That might make up for some of the heinous, murderous foreign military interventions America has hubristically conducted since WW2

The OPPENHEIMER MOVIE SUCKS. I walked out after 2 1/2 hours. You can't hear the dialogue for the non stop background music. Do NOT waste your money! Yes it has great actors including Gary Oldman as Harry S Truman, but you can't hear over the crappy music.
