Oppenheimer was pushed out of government nuclear circles as he was considered a risk for Russian acquisition of nuclear secrets. I understand that this was not true, and in about 1980 he was given a medal by the American president for his contributions. I have not seen the recent movie on him.

Oppenheimer did not resign from the Atomic Energy Commission. His security clearance was revoked and he could not work on classified projects. He didn't "resign" in protest - his consulting contract was not renewed.
