The Ego Explained - Jungian Psychology - Carl Jung

New video all about the Ego aspect of the personality in Jungian Analytical Psychology. The Persona is the center of consciousness and is part of the personal conscious.

Many people want to transcend the Ego but it's important first to make sure that the Ego has undergone a certain level of development. Carl Jung called this process Individuation where a person first dedicates their life toward Ego development and then a turns inward toward the Shadow, the Anima and Animus, and the Self in the latter half of life.

In order to develop a strong and healthy ego, we must learn what our genuine preferences are. Then we can develop hidden potentials, determine our values, and have a really clear sense of identity.

Then, once we have created a strong and healthy Ego, we can begin the Individuation process where we turn inward with processes like Shadow Work.

Though the theory of the Ego originates with Carl G. Jung, I share my own perspective on the Ego along with some practices for constructing the Ego and Individuation.

Here are some other videos that I made based upon elements of Jungian psychology and the Jungian psychological model...

Thank you for this! The Korean band BTS uses the Map of the Soul as a concept for their new albums and their journey to themselves and this was really helpful to understand their story more.

Brilliant as always. Your videos were missed for sure. I was one of those people with weak ego up until i hit 30, now in my mid 30s i know who i am. I was such a late bloomer lol. I also understand how to make the ego work for me and not the other way around, I think that`s very important.

"so if you have an ego, watch out for megalomania, its not just for hitler and stalin" that one struck very close to home!

Incredible quality, fascinating subject that for some reason is quite hard to find. Thank you for making this, it is very informative and helpful while at the same time careful which shows your detication and attention to detail. If possible i would also like some examples of questions to ask ourselves to find our preferences since i'm not quite sure where to start. Other that than great video!

Edit: just a grammatical mistake

Internet learning has helped me greatly. There's something about getting multiple points of view, and being able to replay difficult parts over and over, plus I can fit it into my schedule. Also, it doesn't have to be linear, sometimes I jump from old style thinking to newer perspectives (especially in philosophy) and back again for better insights. As long as I avoid confirmation bias then the internet fosters an open mind. Thanks for the video and I hope you feel better.

Edit: I feel this has helped me in relation to ego work (I have a strong ego) because it's helped me to diffuse my ego thru openmindedness. It's helped me in developing my weak persona by educating me on why things happen, and building compassion for others...we're all in the same boat.

Your videos are so helpful. I'm preparing to enter a counseling psychology Masters program at Pacifica. Their program is based in Depth Psychology, and your series has really given me a lot of good information on Jung's work. Thank you!

A very thorough and lucid explanation. I particularly liked the emphasis on the possibilities of developing or amending the ego in whatever direction is relevant, because ego-related problems often weigh people down and cause difficulties which are relatively easy to resolve compared to, say, persona-identification. I am now in my second half-century and the concept and goal of individuation has recently begun to affect me on a very profound, almost visceral level: it makes me so hopeful to see a young acolyte such as yourself help others explore the riches a Jungian approach can offer to those genuinely seeking a full and creative life.

This is absolute gold. I have a very weak ego and it continues to wreck me, is what I realized after a few videos of yours and especially this one. After all the various psychological theories I've learned about, this feels dead on point.
I'm not entirely sure of how to build a strong ego, but I'm trying to get to know myself better as you suggested here.
Thanks a lot.
