I think that neuroscientist's story was a perfect example of why your "ego" (left brain) is not your enemy. It was because of her left hemisphere urging her to get help that she survived. The right hemisphere didn't care whether she lived or died because of the big picture perspective. Without the ego we couldn't function in this world. This is just fascinating stuff. Love how you compiled all this btw. It really drives the point home.

This woman was on the science of success podcast. I was listening to her on my headphones while on a job site as a carpenter as she says "even the lowliest carpenter can change his mind" I had to really swallow my pride to finish the episode.

Ego death seems like the ultimate act of the ego. For the ultimate motive of an individual in his pursuit of 'ego death' is to attain abilities that will make him 'greater' which is essentially an ego filled desire.

Shiva and Shakti are the female and male hemispheres of the brain. Amazing how ancient cultures knew all this and we think we are so enlightened in these modern times.

"The ego humbled is so much more effective" perfectly phrased. Mind blown

Tell you an interesting tidbit: while I lift and do exercise, I've found that I can count reps in my head by visualizing the numbers rather than counting them aloud in my mind, which then frees my mind to have entirely different simultaneous thoughts at the same time, so I can effectively focus on two tasks at once. I started using this technique at work, visualizing the tasks I had to do as actions rather than thinking about the words of what I had to do. When I did that, it subconsciously transferred the responsibility of maintaining that task to the portion of my brain that is responsible for images, rather than words. Boom! Instantly no more forgetfulness. When I do that, I never forget to do stuff. It's actually amazing.

It’s not “what is my specific individual purposes? What’s my mission? ”

It’s “What is THE purpose”

I fell down the schizophrenic spiral and had my first break when I was 14, I'm 30 now. Videos like this help me wrap my mind around my mind. Seeing psychiatrists and all that never had much of an effect. Thanks boyo, you've made my insomnia a little more bearable

If I find it interesting how Odin plucks out his right eye and drops it into a well and how the eye of Horus is the left eye.

I am seeing all of the history of philosophy as a left-brain right-brain debate after listening to this. Thank you.

I'm dyslexic so grew up thinking I was stupid as could not read easily, pronounce words or remember words but I've always been very perceptive, creative, intuitive and easily see the bigger picture. I was friends with someone with autism who was obsessed with details but not able to see how things connect and no common sense - easily manipulated

I went through a left brain concussion. I personally experienced the horrors of a narrowed down past/future, chaotic present that just never ended reminding me of what a horror story of reality it faces constantly churning through everything that you should be afraid of but let you know only subtly. Its amazing how enthusiastic you are telling us all the stories and discoveries coming from another passionate soul sharing their curiosity... personally it is a living reality everyday for me.

It's so interesting to see modern neuroscience, and modern New Age philosophy, slowly crawl its way, like an infant's, back to the most ancient truths that people have known for tens of thousands of years, but we're only recently, relatively speaking, forgotten by the modern, rational over civilized man.

We have to think of it in terms of the left and right brain, but it is merely the Primal polarity of the universe. The masculine and the feminine. The structure, and the substance. The essence and the energy. The Divine father and the Divine mother. Man is not one or the other, but both and also something more.

Iain Mcgilchrist has a very very important book about the right and left hemispheres and their influence during history. It’s called The Master and His Emissary.

In addition to Master and His Emissary i also recommend Origin of the Conciousness in the Breakdown of Bimeceral Mind by Julian Jaynes. Total mind blower.

The 12 Steps of AA exposes the shadow and helps us see ourselves as we really are. I did the 12 Steps and had what I think was a spiritual experience - I became conscious and then started asking questions and seeing through the illusions of society. A decade later and read Carl Jung's The Undiscovered Self and think he nails it more than anyone.
