I was a Boy Scout when I was taught this lesson. We had to hang all our “smellables” high inbetween the trees at night. A bear that got into camp food was tagged. If it got in a second time, it was tagged. If it got in a third time it was shot. “We do not like to shoot our bears. It does not align with Leave No Trace.” A bear which saw camps as a source of food could only bring tragedy.
