THE Cheapest Tomato Trellis

This season I'll show you every Trellis method I can think of starting off with my favorite early season system the single leader string trellis!

The single leader string tomato trellis is definitely the cheapest when it comes to materials, give that you have something to attach to. I like to do this for my earliest tomatoes due to the high air flow and low disease pressure. The single leader tends to produce earlier as well as the plant doesn't have to support all the suckers! Full pros and cons down below:

Advantages:
Cheap, pennies in string/twine
Higher Airflow = Less Disease
No Suckers = Earlier + Larger Tomatoes
Denser planting for more variety

Disadvantages:
Lower Overall Harvest w/o Suckers
High Maintenance Due To Pruning
If Not Maintained It Becomes Floppy FAST

Trim and replant suckers. And you will get FREE plants. And YES they produce. I do this every year

It is the “somewhere to attach the twine” that really matters.

I don’t even have a garden but I love these videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

This is probably the best and fasted explanation of how to set up a tomato trellis. Thank you. I didn’t think about burying the twine. Also this is even cheaper if you use a kitchen knife instead of shears.

Oh my gosh!! That’s what I was doing wrong when I string trellised — I didn’t bury the twine under the tomato! THANK YOU!!

I used to plant them that deep. Now I plant them deeper for the root ball to start higher. Grows better and faster.

Started using the string/twine method a few years ago. I've never used any other method since. Also perfect for cucumbers, squash, courgette (zucchini), aubergine (egg plant) & more.

My dad used to put stringers up for our tomatoes and cucumbers in our green house in the 1979’s. It’s a great idea.

Wow wish I had seen this instead of buying the 75 tomato cages I had to get this year. And they out grow them but with this I can just keep tightening the string. Great vid

Very well explained. Especially burying the twine and how to wrap it around the plant is a good one.

I started using parachute cord instead of twine. I found twine breaks after awhile or strong winds.

THANK YOU for showing EXACTLY how to wrap the tomato correctly and why 🎉👍💥

My favourite way! I've been doing this for years. Got a nice pergola on sale in the fall, now I have a good looking support structure for years to come. :)

To the point and still detailed enough to get how it works and why. Perfect video, thanks!

yea the part of "somewhere to attach the twine" is the vein of my existence right now when i plant all my tomatoes in pots and the tomato cages were too weak for the size of my plants. This is when i realized that tomatoes act like weeds if you let them lol.
