As Geekdom mentioned, Vegeta's speech at the end of Z is not him stating he's giving up on his goal to surpass Goku or that Goku will always be better, despite what a lot of people say. It was rather an acknowledgment that Goku deserves full respect as a warrior regardless of the Saiyan class/social structure. We see in Super he's still angry and competitive when Goku achieves new feats, but unlike most of Z, it's because of a more friendly competitive rivalry rather than some deep seeded psychology involving social class.

I would argue that Vegeta has gotten the most if not the only real development in Super.

Since Vegeta got Ultra Ego, it would be nice to see him dealing the finishing blow to defeat a main villain even just for once.

I just wish someone like tien gets a crazy power up in the future, the reason being that all of the z fighters have basically given up martial arts except for tien and his dedication deserves to be recognized

People miss the point of Vegeta VS Toppo so much and I think it's the greatest instance of character development in all of DBS. Vegeta is basically fighting someone who made the same choices he did in the Buu saga. Toppo was incredibly powerful and prideful, but he gave up his pride for a power boost. Vegeta did the same thing with Majin Vegeta in the Buu saga. When he used the Final Atonement to defeat what is basically the guy he used to be, he didn't die from it. You can say it's because Blue has way better ki control or because Vegeta is stronger, but the narrative reason is that Vegeta has nothing to atone for anymore. Toppo did.

Ultra Ego is such a good form for Vegeta because he's 100% true to his own pride and values and this is a showcase of it. DBZ Vegeta talked a lot of shit all the time but at the end of the day he only ever beat people weaker than him. Vegeta VS Toppo was probably the first time he squared up to someone stronger and won the fight. (Remember that Golden Frieza was a match for Goku's full power at this point and Toppo bodied him with ease)

What I appreciate is the fact that he finally managed to “go back to his old self.” He’s been metaphorically trying to return to his ruthless self for a long time and he’s finally achieved it the right way without losing himself in the process.

The worst beat down to his ego must've been Android 18. Imagine gaining SS1 FINALLY. Destroying everything only to get demolished and humiliated by 18

Vegeta has literally shown more love to his family than goku ever has to his own.

That’s why beerus told vegeta that he told frieza to destroy planet vegeta to simply show that his actions as a G.O.D he has no guilt for them.

4:55 These's a genuine doubt. We see kid Vegeta not being bothered by destruction of planet Vegeta and we say that's a proof of Vegeta not caring for weaker ones and that being the reason he never revived the planet. But when Frieza killed him on namek there's a pretty emotional dialogue from Vegeta saying how he didn't choose this life and how he wants Goku to take the revenge for planet Vegeta. If Vegeta didn't care about his people why would he act so emotionally attached ?

To me i always saw vegeta fighting between two personalities. That of being a caring person and that of having ego.

Vegeta has inadvertently become more fascinating than the original main character himself lol Goku is still awesome but I constantly look forward to Vegeta finally getting his shine

My favorite part of the story writing, is I feel like they are touching on every possible aspect of the saiyan race. We see a low class warrior. A prince. The primal animalistic instinct. The pure of heart. The evil/demented. And now we are witnessing the pinnacle of the race on both spectrums.
Pure of heart, UI (future angel?)
Egotistical, UE (future G.O.D?)
Honestly the overarching story is beautiful

I love the contrast between Instinct and Ego.
A martial artist (Goku) controls his emotion in order to let his technique flow through him.
A leader (Vegeta) draws on his pride and experience to lead his people to victory.

Ultra Ego and Ultra Instinct are probably based on Freudian's theory of Id and Ego, or more correctly it's bastardization.

Ultra Instinct is a transformation that came from unconscious thought, or unconscious movement due to Goku's inherent Saiyan's battle mindset, his genius battle instinct and his countless battle experiences.

While Ultra Ego came from the conscious thought and conscious movement of Vegeta, his pure enjoyment of battle and saiyan savagery directly increases his power. When Beerus was talking about expunging sins, he probably meant that Vegeta should stop his Super Ego (moral and principle) from holding back his Ego (conscious battle lust) in battle. Toyotaro probably named Ultra Ego as an antithesis of Goku's Ultra Instinct, and also because Vegeta is quite an egotistical person.

I understand the story driven aspect of the "ego" power branch. It's a way for Vegeta to finally get his moment to shine without taking away from Goku's own achievements. Having said that, I always found that Vegeta's edge over Goku is his practical-mindedness. I also always found that his Ego was always his downfall. So.... we shall see I guess?

" It's all because of the fact that Vegeta is pure EGO. "
This is 100% factual, Vegeta himself stated this.
" Kakarot's body may have a mind of it's own, but I'm *all ego*, in fact, go ahead and call this Ultra Ego. "

Vegeta’s story is the most compelling but the most heartbreaking. That’s why I love him. He is why I love Dragon Ball. In fact, I might not care about anime or manga if it weren’t for Vegeta. He’s that important and why toying with him or his fans can be devastating.

Not just that, I think a main thing that held the Saiyans back was the fact they were space pirates who typically targeted worlds of weaker species. We all know about the zenkai boost that they get when they get near death, which is why Goku could match Vegeta even though he was of low class birth, because he always challenged himself, something I don’t think many people from his home world did. It was hinted in the Bardock movie as well, the doctors were surprised with how strong he was getting and he’d come back half dead from a lot of his missions. They were born with advantages most didn’t take advantage of
