Your personality and your brain | Scott Schwefel | TEDxBrookings

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. We all have a unique personality, but we also show up to others in ways we don’t know. Understanding how our brains become consciously aware of ourselves, and in turn, everyone else teaches how we can connect, adapt and ultimately influence others. It all starts with knowing when we are truly self-aware, and when we aren’t, how to get there quickly and easily.

Scott Schwefel built and sold Minnesota’s largest technology training company. To get there he used personality assessments to help his people understand each other and understand clients and customers. His study of personality led to an awareness of brain science and how our brains enable us to communicate with each other. Scott has taught these principles of brain science and communications techniques throughout North America, Europe and Asia, and to over 1300 CEOs globally.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Isn't amazing when you watch a video or read a book and you feel you really did learn something of value? Thank you very much for this great talk.

I immediately knew I was the Sunshine Yellow and already thought about sharing this video with my friends - which proved that I'm indeed a Sunshine Yellow.

And me sharing this information to thousands of strangers just proves him right once again. I feel so self-centered.

"Wear as many hats as you want." <3
That was the best advice. I feel called to Green and Blue and was desperate because I couldn't choose, so I chose both.

Aw. I'm green and when he said if your spouse is green, give them a longer hug than usual, I actually put a hand to my heart because that would actually make me feel better right now. xD

I think I'm both green and blue. I remember crying so hard then suddenly I got curious how tears are formed so I searched for it while having my sad lady hours hahaha

As a team, we all were given a training on this, and has been the best training (and more useful) ever! Because we learned to recognize traits and interact accordingly, capitalizing our differences

After watching the video I now understand why I hate when my mom hustles me, even if it's an emergency. "Call the person now! Send the message now! Finish what you're doing now! You wash the wares too slowly!! Hurry up, hurry up. hurry up!"

I always internally scream in frustration. If I move too fast then my thinking process lags behind and I find myself doing some stupid things that could've been avoided if I thought about it a little more! #worst _nightmare

With me perpetually thinking (green and blue) and her always hustling (red and orange) we always clash. Time for us to start understanding each other more!

Well this was more helpful than I thought it would. It hit me when he said ""If you're blue you're probably thinking you're not sure you need more time to think it over" becaue that is what I was doing, and then it hit me again when he showed the negative effects of that trait. I've become cold, indecisive...paralyzed for over 1 year trying to find myself and what I ought to do...I thought too much, I've abused what I do best and that can lead to depression. So...thank you for this talk :)

I've known about MBTI for many years and studied it extensively. I often introduce people and new friends to it, partially to try and understand where they come from and partly as a party favor - it's fun and interesting. Over the years, I've come across the issue that many people don't like being "put into a box" and being "defined" or "confined." Indeed, most people don't like being told that they have limitations, having been told for their entire lives that they can do "anything they put their minds to."
I put those concerns to rest by simply explaining that, "this doesn't define you - you define it." That is, you define yourself. What MBTI tells you is, where you are in relation to everyone else in the world.

One of the best talks I have seen recently. Light weight yet meaningful and full of useful information. Perfect

In the world of overloaded and forcefed information I had the privilege of finding this absolutely amazing video.
I have kept taking screenshots, but that wasn't enough. I rarely download from YouTube, but how this guy manages the way of presenting the topic. Smashing!

Wow!! Best TED talk I've heard so far. Bravo!!

I am sunshine yellow. Several ppl in my life call me sunshine, one nurse called me "bright & shiny" instead of my name.

Thanks for sharing this tool that we can use to get to know ourselves better.

This helps me understand more about some issues that I have been struggling with for years. I am beyond thankful.
