Perl. This is your personal hope to happen. Perl is still dominating the finance sector for the lowest level things, starting from trading, your epayments and many other financial transactions. If you want +100k a year working for a UK bank, you still have time if you just getting started with it.

You are just repeating some trend charts blindly. There is no chance Erlang or Haskell will die out in next 20 or 30 years. They are unique languages. The functionality they provide can't be replaced by any other language on the planet. Erlang and Haskell are definitively worth learning and getting into, especially if you are into complex distributed systems, databases, telecommunication equipment, banking / financial, medical data processing, high reliability software (including nuclear, aviation and automotive, and high reliability compilers). Similarly OCaml.

By the way, being highly skilled on a dying programming language can provide some huge financial benefits. Just think of all that legacy code there is at rich corportations...

Have you ever tried Erlang? No! And some of recent corporate/enterprise new NoSQL databases are done in Erlang.

I think Erlang is in decline because of Elixir.

Saying Erlang is dying... In the same time, CouchDB is laughing hard (yeah, it's written in Erlang)...
Saying Perl is dying... In the same time, a lot of Hypervisors powering basically the entire internet use it internally...

Perl "mission critical" LOL. Perl is least mission critical language out there. It is horrible for any long term maintenance purposes.
