One thing I'll never understand about Genshin is why they main characters barely show up in the game. Even in their own story quests, the majority of time is spent on random npcs you don't care about at all.
What's also dumb is how they also completely disappear from the world instead of just hanging out. Like, why can't Ningguang be in her own palace, why can't Barbara and Jean be in Mondstadt. If you could actually interact with characters, it'd make the game feel a lot more alive

Crazy when even skipping dialogue actually takes time as well, sometimes I'm clicking for over a minute straight and it frightens me sometimes

its crazy how every time paimon isnt following us, the story become better.

I just wish they would lessen the dialogue and make the Traveler speak instead of Paimon being our spokesperson.

I REALLY wish that Aranara and Jeht questlines were voiced. How can they just decided to make a side world quest feels like it's own game and not gave voicelines to it.

"They say a lot, and yet, they say so little"

OK, everyone stops here, he said what had to be said.

The truth, the holy truth.

As a person who unlocked inazuma four times on four separate servers, the pacing in inazuma, mainly the taxes part, was absolutely painful.

Honestly, the Jeht and Sorush side quests in Sumeru had better pacing and were more enjoyable than a lot of the content in the game

I am sat there like "who asked" for 90% of genshins dialogue....kinda accepted it now lol

the "show, don't tell" rule is so true. i hate the black screen with white text for this exact reason. yoimiya's second story quest made an improvement on that where they had a still image instead of a black screen twice but then there was one scene where they did the black screen and i was like "NOOOO YOU WERE JUST IMPROVING, " but then after that one is when they used an image the second time instead of the black screen. i hope they stop doing the black screen and just have a still image in it's place instead. i wish the sumeru story had this when traveler was explaining everything that happened to them up to that point. i wanted to see everyone's faces and reactions to everything that happened to traveler but they just had to make it a black screen.

I played Genshin in late summer 2022 and, after a bit, was hit with the fear of missing out. Had to spend hours rushing my way through the game, trying to get to inazuma just to take part in an event. Went through the long list of pre-requisite main and side quests. The when Sumeru was released shortly after, I had to go through all of that again. Was extremely burnt out, didnt finish the Sumeru archon quest and quit the game. The pacing for a new player was painful

When he said "show don't tell" I almost jumped out of my bed cheering cuz THANK YOU FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE GETS IT.
Like honestly I personally don't mind the extended ass stories. I feel like I'm playing an anime sometimes. But what really breaks that feeling is when I have like 5-10 minutes of dialogue and then that stupid fade to black where they just HAVE A BLACK BACKGROUND WITH WHITE TEXT DESCRIBING WHAT THE CHARACTER(S) IS SEEING!!
And we have examples in game where they have done Show dont Tell so so effing well. Like how you mentioned the scene after Traveller leaves the encounter with Shogun and there's the visual and gameplay effect that shows the Traveller feeling disoriented (and even Paimon's dialogue aids in this as she shows genuine concern for Traveller). There was also a few scenes in the recent Archipelago with Kazuha's story/island that I also felt really told the story thru dialogue *and* gameplay. I feel like both these approaches become so underutilized nowadays for some reason.
But then in some of the Sumeru quests which to me arguably had some of the strongest actual lore backing with the whole Dharian/Khaenriah thing going on I feel like we could've had so many more Show don't Tell moments. There were so many moments where instead of it cutting to black and giving us text about the shared flashbacks of 500 yrs ago where they could've showed us in either a cutscene, some limited gameplay or even animated 2D scenes..
I feel like when they utilize Show don't Tell so so f*cking well but they just don't do it enough!

And he is so right with the events being related to the lore. Not only is this is an issue with Albedo and the Dragonspine event, but anyone who wasn't around for the really early game not only missed Scaramouche's intro but also that huge lore bit within that event intro about the "stars and skies" being a lie. Only reason I know about that is because of people like Ashikaii. I also feel like people who missed out on the original archipelago (which I thankfully started playing in time to enjoy) missed out on a signature weapon for Klee but also on a part of the lore for the next year's archipelago event. And it makes me wonder if they do another one this summer if newer players will find themselves lost or confused with the return of this beloved event since they never got to experience the time-gated stories of the past 2 years.

I remember back in 2020 fighting the ruin hunters in that liyue quest where you go inside some mountain with my amber traveler razor and barbara it was hella tough and i was under leveled and under geared and yet i still beated it after that i audibly said "I love this game" that was the last time I've said that to the game. After seeing necrits candace dps it sorta reminded me of that moment after having countless of stacked teams for abyss making me set for the rest of this game's life none made me felt that type of joy as that moment because progressing in this story with it's combat just sucks out the joy if I can just complete it in mere seconds

I think the issue with genshin impact is that while the story itself is progressing, your personal growth of your account and characters has long hit a ceiling. You don't feel like you need to become stronger for the next boss fight or threat so how do you build suspense in the story? You see a powerful looking new boss and you know you'll breeze through it with your roster of 20 maxed out fully farmed characters. At the beginning it felt like you had to actually get stronger to also progress in the story. That's when I still found it fun.

Honestly most of Genshin's dialog reminds me of that scene from One Punch Man, where Genos kept talking about his backstory and stuff for who knows how long, except it's tedious and annoying.

And It's not like all of Genshin's story is bad like the story events and hangouts are really good, and I do think some of the Sumeru arc is good, it's just the execution that's the problem imo.

It sucks that the pacing and dialogue bloat in genshin is so extreme, I've honestly been wanting to get back into it since I have so much to do after about a year of not really playing. Did the Sumeru archon quest which took literally days for me to get through and have not wanted to touch another quest since. HSR was amazing, I couldn't stop playing and still play every single day. Genshin if you want to get through the quests it literally feels like you're clocking in to a second shift at work every day. It's painful and it's so sad that such a fun game is ruined by chore after chore after chore. Like where tf are the combat quests in this stupid game? You get one boss fight at the end of an Archon quest typically and that's like... it. Then it's back to the mines.

That deinslief quest had no paimon, but it also had very little deinslief. Which is almost a fair trade 😂

I just wish they add voices to side quests and take all of paimons dialogue remove the filler and exposition. Give 75% of what remains to the traveler so that they actually talk out loud and have a personality and add a Genshin version of simulated universe that's permanent and gets new content reworked into it from time to time.
