My little brother started playing with the release of Fontaine. He watched me play before, but he couldn't play because he lacked a good phone. Now he is enjoying the game and even won Hu Tao and Raiden. As an elder brother I bought him a Welkin Moon to celebrate.

I think Genshin improved a lot from the beginning. Now you have more regions, more characters and a longer story.
The only disadvantages are the fact that you won't be able to have as many characters as day 1 players and you will be missing all the event stories. It's quite a shame since I enjoyed the events a lot.

Interesting thanks. I'm an older gamer and my teenage daughter plays this. I jokingly said over dinner that I might start playing and she was actually very engaged with the idea... so here I am. I might give it shot and if I do, I'll definitely watch your guide videos.

of course it is. you can finish the game with what the game gives you with only 4 stars. the story and graphics is just SO worth it

I started playing Genshin at the release of Fontaine, and I totally agree that it is definitely a lot of content to go through and just have fun playing at your own pace. I just got to Inazuma and I’m loving the game so far and have been playing everyday. I’m actually glad that I’m far behind so that I can also lean on other more experienced players commentary on certain quests and character builds that make the game go a lot smoother for a newbie like myself.

Started last year and have been loving it. There's a ton to do, but as long as you take it in bites you'll be OK.

My biggest fear is missing out on story events that will never get rerun and sadly there some older story events that I have missed, but aside from that the game is still very fun and completely f2p, I started mid december 2023 (you will be very limited in getting 5 star especially for collectors)

Note:
Grinding might be more "expensive" since the resin system (what you use to farm resources to make character stronger from ascending to get more level, level up weapon, level up artifact, get the specific artifact, etc) is very very very limited so don't expect to grind every hour of evey day

Edit:
Was typing this and Shark already spoke about everything here so hahahaha lol

Followed your account progression guide and the game never felt overwhelming. Great game and new players really should pace themselves b/c of the amount of content that's there rather than trying to finish by x date.

Started to play 3 weeks ago, now AR48.. So far enjoying it very much, probably will continue to play for a long time :)
Only thing I heavily dislike is the resin system. I don't like being forced to play casual by only being allowed to farm for artifacts for 15-30min a day. I get why that system is there and in my opinion having that system is fine for ascension/talent/weapon items. But definitely not for artifact domains. You will never reach absolute perfection so artifact farming is endless, you never will be done so I don't see the point of the limit for that. Going for artifact perfection would be a decent late/end game activity for me, but it's not possible if the daily max is 8 runs..

I started 7 months ago and I have played maby 400 h and I still have so much content I haven't done. I really got hooked by the combat system so I made it my goal to beat Spiral Abyss, the hardest(and only) combat focused endgame content as early as possible. To achive that I heavily min-maxed my character progression and resource spending/gaining to the point that there was a time where the only way to proggress was to wait and wish for more characters. A more casual player probably won't hit as hard of a wall as I did, but they will still hit a point were progression gets significantly slower. At that point you just have to remember that with time you will get there, be it owned character leveling or getting new ones. Genshin is not a race or even a marathon, but a even longer journey where you can spend as much time as you need to arrive at your destination.

Been playing on and off since 2021 and Ive got to say the sheer amount of content is absolutely mind blowing. I might stumble upon random quest or accept a seemingly benign world quest and get propelled into a 2 hour long side story. If you’re like me where you deviate from the main story frequently and get lost in the weeds, you will be heavily rewarded. Some of my favorite experiences come from randomly stumbling upon massive side stories I might not have found otherwise. The Fontaine addition is just *chefs kiss*. This game has a great charm too, penny & Ann’s quest lines are great examples of that. Cannot recommend this game enough.

As a new player who started the game about 3 months ago, I consider myself lucky with my gacha rolls. It wasn't until I opened the maps within two weeks of playing that I finally got an Inazuman character. I'm also grateful to all the veteran players who were willing to help me when I was still at AR 10-35. Now, I'm able to clear most of the content aside from the Abyss and Theater. I mean, I'm pretty new as a player, and my character rosters aren't that many to make a great team for it.

I agree, it's never too late. The game keeps getting better in terms of QOL and there is so much to do. I would say if you're looking to join, Hoyo made it easier than ever to join right now. You can even skip right to Fontaine (if you care). I would say the exploration is so good - the scenery, the music, the puzzles, all of it is amazing. There were some parts of the game that were so beautiful I literally paused, put down the controller and said out loud "how is this game free?". All content is F2P, and that's outstanding. The elemental combat system is so much fun. You're pretty much limited to your imagination. There are so many combos.

The only words of warning would be this:

1. If you're new you are at serious disadvantage if you want to obtain and build every character. The resin system makes that very hard to possibly mathematically impossible to obtain and build every character. So, DON'T try. Instead go for good characters, and your favorites only. It's a lot more satisfying and you will spend too much money trying to do it.
2. Go at your own pace. This game is huge. I started in Year 2, and it took weeks to "catch up". Now I'm caught up and it's kind of nice to not have to do "everything".
3. If you're going to spend money - buy the blessing of welkin moon and/or the battle pass only. I don't think any other items are actually worth it (when you look at value for your dollars). But you'll save a lot of money if you follow #1 above.
4. If you don't find it fun, don't do the activity. I love when people complain that they hate e.g. the trading card game. It's not mandatory, so if you hate it, don't play it. Same with fishing, the Abyss, and whatever else people tend to complain about. The only "mandatory" part of the game is the archon quests and arguably the story quests.
5. You don't need to do the dailies, but they definitely help and they only take 15-30 minutes a day. So it's low time commitment, but frequent time commitment.
6. Don't pull for weapons in the gacha. It's a trap.
7. Don't go for constellations on 5* characters unless you love that character and have consulted a guide on who "needs" it.

Nothing wrong with taking a break. Enjoy Teyvat.

As someone who has played for over two years here are two major considerations that all players will eventually realize perhaps months if not over a year into the game: firstly there is no endgame, the spiral abyss is an absolute pittance to the time and love of investment you will give these characters.

Secondly you will reach a point where the mindless grind for character ascension materials becomes so incredibly boring that you will actually not want to pull a new character because you’d have to spend hours upon hours grinding meaningless Content to level them up and for what purpose because there is literally no endgame lol. So definitely enjoy the journey the games that you want and not the destination because there is no destination there is no meaning beyond the slice of life in the world building!

I started this game 3 months ago and your content helped me get through all of the games content. I'm at end game now just farming artifacts and building characters for abyss. Thankyou for your amazing videos!!!

I played this game for 2 years. At first, it was a really great experience, but you will get bored eventually, and there is no way to prevent this, unfortunately. It's worth playing if you've never played it, but don't hesitate to drop it when this game stops giving you dopamine. All regrets like "wasted time" or achieved  "characters, weapons, etc" will disappear really quickly, and I personally don't feel like coming back.

I just started last 4.2 because I was a MOBA gamer, then I thought to myself, I am so tired of the losestreaks there and bad teammates. I just missed on Furina's banner. I am AR 45 rn and won both my 50/50's with Ayaka and Raiden. Love the content here! So many to go around! I wish I played this game sooner!

I played from release until they released Inazuma…..I got a new job and my kids needed more care I took time off. Things are going good now, I’ve started playing again after about 2 years off. I’m sad I don’t have all the special event stuff and limited stuff, but the hame is still amazing. Takes me back to playing Spyro as a kid.
