The "Devils Mile" starts with eight collegiate runners (one for each lap of a mile race on the wood indoor track of Simplot Games). Not only is the Devil's Mile a fast race for fast runners, but skill and strategy make a big difference in the outcome of the race. The slowest runner at the end of the first lap will be eliminated and only seven runners will be in the second lap. As the race goes on, the slowest runner of each lap will be eliminated only leaving two runners in the final lap.

"This race is interesting to watch since it involves both physical and strategic skill," executive director Rebecca Anderson said. "The runners need to save their wind at the beginning of each lap, yet still end each lap with a strong kick to remain in the race."

To make the Devil's Mile even more competitive and fun to watch, money is involved. Depending on how many laps athletes run the more money they can earn. Athletes are rewarded $10 for every lap during the first five laps, excluding the first lap. During the sixth and seventh laps the funds go up $10 more. The winner of the eighth and final lap receives an extra $50.

The top winner of the Devils Mile will end up with a total of $140. Bringing the Devil's Mile to the Simplot Games adds extra anticipation to the athletes, parents, and fans at the Holt Arena.
