The Playstation Portal One Year Later

It's been one year since the release of the Newest Handheld PlayStation console. The Playstation Portal was a surprise announcement and seems like it came out of nowhere. Now that we have had a whole year to experience and reflect on the console... How do we all feel about it? In this video I'll share my experience and tell you if I still think it's worth it or not.

I talked recently with a game store employee who said the Portal can get drift and that the replacement sticks are not great. Also, the Pro uses wifi 7 but the Portal uses just wifi 5. I don't remember PS1 and PS2 analogue controllers having drift issues. The same employee mentioned that the older controllers used magnet tech, while the newer controllers use something else that is more susceptible to drift.

Depends on use case I suppose. The ability to play my games anywhere in my house was a game changer. Working all day then sitting upright in a chair or lounging awkwardly in bed to see the tv while I played just isn’t it. I got mine used for about $100 but I would’ve paid full price if I knew how much I would enjoy mine. Laying/lounging anywhere however I want to play is wonderful. A bit too much latency for competitive/ranked shooters but don’t mine it for unranked. It’s funny because I have a switch but haven’t used it in years. Just comes down to different use cases and preferences. Also for whatever reason the latency is a lot better on the portal than doing remote play with a phone and dual sense. Never was happy trying it on my phone.

I am afraid to buy one because dual sense controllers seem like they start drifting way too soon. I couldn't imagine this happening with something I paid two hundred dollars for, and I would not be able to use the thing. Spending $80 for a new dual sense is one thing... but I don't want to be in the same situation with a $200 + tax paper weight.

Good vid bro! Just confirmed what I thought about the portal. As a father of 2 the portal would have been awesome! If it was an actual console and not a streaming device. I bought mine a while back and had the same issue you had. I returned it two days later. Honestly it’s not worth the hassle. I’m just going to wait for the switch 2

I got a switch lite to play animal crossing then never touched it since, same with my partner's switch haven't been used in over 2 years lol. Using my Portal everyday though, I feel like since this is a switch channel it's biased. But each to their own I guess, take care.

I have the 30th Anniversary PS Portal preordered, its gonna cost €240 here in Ireland. I'm glad I watched this now becasue I think I was buying it 'just because'.

I barely play my PS5 tbh, and the fact that to get a good picture on this thing, I should plug out my HDMI, or change the resolution on the PS5 for this to not be choppy, OR, even to connect via ethernet? Man, that's a lot of things to do to just play a game.

Not going to get this. I'll stick with my Zelda Switch Lite too.
