NASA responds to backlash over cancellation of first all-female spacewalk

NASA is responding to criticism after announcing the first-ever all-female spacewalk will not happen this week because only one appropriately sized spacesuit is ready. Astronauts Anne McClain and Christina Koch were set to make history Friday by walking to together to install lithium-ion batteries for the space station's solar panels. The project will still take place, but a male astronaut will walk in McClain's place. Janet Shamlian reports.

I'm a woman and I literally don't see a problem. Getting the job done is far more important than the gender of who gets it done. NASA doesn't hate women they just see what the real task at hand is.

Some people really don't get it that she trained in one size and shifted to another at the last moment. It's a space suit we are talking about not some jeans that you can pick up another size. It takes time to build one

People who think that this spacewalk would have been a "milestone" don't know the difference between "milestone" and "stunt". There will come a day where two space walkers will just happen to be women. That will be a real milestone. If you have to arrange it so that it will be two woman then it is meaningless.

I'm a female and I'm embarrassed by "modern women" that make it news worthy that one of the female astronauts couldn't do the space walk. Wake up, first woman in space was in 1963, first space walk - 1984. So whether you had 1 or 2 female astronauts do a space walk - it's not ground breaking or so news worthy.

A space suit is very important, it has to fit perfect for the individual Astronaut otherwise their life is in danger, and staying alive in space is more important than creating History, besides...History is being created everyday for these Astronauts everytime they are in space, and having women in space is going to be extremely important, because as it turns out, women are probably the one's to go to planet Mars before men (read up on it) so women as well as men will continue making History in space but Astronauts lives in space is very delicate and complicated, they are a hair string away from a disaster when their up there. I'm shocked and amazed how they have been able to physically and mentally deal with their environment in space and in such close quarters. So, if you think they can just jump on a space suit and that's it, it's apparent that you have no idea, so don't make remarks about things to the public or to your audience without first educating yourselves.
