The 'Perfect' Town that DISNEY Built - Celebration, Florida - Tennis, Burritos, and Beer!

Just a few minutes drive across I4 from Walt Disney World's EPCOT, Magic Kingdom, and many other Orlando area attractions is Celebration; a housing district originally built by the Walt Disney Company. I visited this quaint, (and somewhat suspicious), area outside of Orlando in January 2023, had a great tennis lesson, and some great Tex-Mex food! #disneyworld #celebration #tennis

Living so close to Disney, I visit Celebration often. It's just a nice, serene place to walk around and the restaurants are really good. It's really expensive to live within the Celebration single-family home area, although my son's apartment was reasonably priced. If I could afford it, it's something I would consider. I don't mind the HOA rules...it keeps things in order!

This private home would be so nice to spend some time in, even if not visiting the parks.

I always think of Celebration as like The Truman Show, worryingly perfect.

I'm pretty sure that's the Walmart we went to when we stayed at Sheraton Vistana, between 535 and I4. It was huge. We were there pretty late at night and there were so many families with sleepy, cranky kids. It was interesting LOL

You should have stayed at the hotel, we did about 6 years ago and it’s incredible. Celebration is just cute!

Seeing the homes in Celebration reminded me of the movie The Stepford Wives (the Glenn Close version). Ah, driving down Kissimmee 192, where my old timeshare was down a side street. I shopped in one of those gift stores where the front was a giant wizard and got a few good deals on "official" WDW T-shirts.

the best restaurant in Celebration is the Celebration Town Tavern.

I was a young US Army soldier in Nürnberg, Germany in the mid 1970s. A friend of mine found a great apartment he didn't want to lose while waiting for his wife to come. He asked me if I wanted to stay there with him to share the rent until his wife got there and then he would get his housing allowance form the Army. I agreed to do that. We met with the landlord who lived on the ground floor of the house. he and his wife were an older couple and they were very nice. We sat in their dining room, beers were brought out and the landlord explained the rules and such. Then he asked us what day of the week did we take our shower! Well my friend and I were bakers working in the kitchen of the big Army hospital where were stationed. We explained that it was hot, dirty work and we showered every day. He thought about that for a moment and said okay. I remember riding on the streetcars in town on hot summer days and if the streetcar was crowded, people would stand hanging on to the hanging straps. I can tell you that if you were near somebody with their arm raised holding on to the strap, it wasn't always pleasant! It was also normal that most European women back in those days didn't shave their armpits or legs. Us soldiers used to joke about the odor and the hair, it was strange to us.

Back in those days it was common to have little individual gas water heaters above sinks and bathtub/showers. You had to light it before you wanted hot water and it would warm up pretty quickly. There were always matches nearby. Later I rented a small basement apartment and in the corner of the living room/bedroom was a little oil heater. Again, if I wanted heat I had to turn on the oil which came form a big tank down the hall, and light the heater with a match. Open the valve to get oil, open the top of the heater and throw a lit match down into the oil. As long as it was burning, it produced a lot of heat. If I lifted the top open while it was burning, flames would shoot up! My little kitchen was in a separate room next to the living room and it had no heat, I had to rely on the heat to come from the living room.

We were less than 15 minutes by streetcar from downtown Nürnberg, it wasn't like we were in a little village somewhere.

I returned to Germany in 1999 to work at a large US Army training area about 1 hour north of Nürnberg and apparently things had changed and German people had discovered regular personal hygiene, and it seemed everybody showered regularly and most women shaved their legs and armpits.

Now I live in Poland . I still love Nürnberg and go there often. It's one of my favorite cities in the world, and I've lived in Europe and Asia for more than 30 years of my life and I've traveled a lot.

Totally bummed that you didn't run into Adam the Woo! LOL Celebration isn't a place I'd want to live in, personally. The point is moot because I could never afford it... But it's just too Stepford Wives/ Desperate Housewives for me. But I'm glad you had a lovely visit!

Morgan, was that the family tree? Were you trying to turn over a new leaf? I think you are mistaken about the cleanliness rumours of Germans, I think the English have always been the butt of that rumour. It is normal in Australia to use the "air" dryer for hanging clothes as our energy bills are suicidal 🙃 😑

You do not take a shower after tennis or fitness or things like that? You are kidding, aren't you? Or maybe I am just a typical German who does not want to stink when going to a restaurant.

It's unfortunate that you had to go to Hobby Lobby because they are really really anti Gay.
