How does our knowledge grow? It turns out there are some different ideas about that. Schemas, Four-Stage Theory of Cognitive Development, and Vygotsky's Theory of Scaffolding all play different roles but the basic idea is that children think about things very differently than adults. Hank explains in today's episode of Crash Course Psychology.

So when a baby laughs during a game of peekaboo it’s not because what you did was funny, it’s because it’s relieved you still exist?

I'd love to see a crash course on philosophy! There's a lot of us out here who could use it.

When I was little, my parents both worked most of the day, so I spent a lot of time at my grandmother's house. I started calling my grandma "mamma" like I did for my mother because, in my small child mind, they were the same kind of person because they both played the same kind of roles in my life. I knew that one was my grandmother and the other was my mother but they were both "mamma"

Developmental psychology is fascinating. I love Piaget! Bowlby's work is amazing, too.

That's helping me a lot to understand Piaget. God, can someone please tell me why by simply looking this video I understand more than in class which are so boring that I have to doodle to avoid falling asleep? Why?! How can it be that a video can tell you more than a school lesson??

It would be great if you could do a political philosophy series, discussing Thomas Paine, Hobbes, Hume, Rousseau, John Stuart Mill etc.

Wow when I learned about this exact same stuff in my first year psychology class I was confused and bored stiff... This was so interesting it took me a while to realize I recognized the subject matter. I guess my psych prof didn't have a stuffed Hanklerfish to give an example of object permanence... Awesome job Hank and the Crash Course team :)
