I’ve had to stop with the plants too. I was getting out of hand lol. My problem now is I but to many groceries. It’s like I’m afraid I will run out of food but I end up wasting food. I need to learn to eat what I have before I buy more. I also learned that jewelry is unnecessary for me. I’ve also stop buying books- the library is free.

Just because it isn't a part of your life now, doesn't mean it was a mistake. When you had the plants, It was a beautiful time in your life, developing your independence, interests, responsibilities etc... You were a great plant mom! Which now you've evolved into being a great cat mom!

I always hated when people said money can't buy happiness. No, it can't but it puts a roof over your head, food in your belly, medicine (a lot of dietetic supples are not cheap!), and clothes on your back.

I’ve donated many books. I love the look of full bookshelves, but I don’t want to take care of things I don’t have any use for anymore. I‘ve always thought, that books are the only way I can show people, that I‘m not stupid, but people who measure your intelligence and knowledge by the amount of books you own, may be the actual stupid ones...
Cool video, Kyra! Thank you for reassuring and reminding, that it’s okay to make mistakes.

you can love minimalism and have as much color around you as you like- beige and white doesn't equal minimalism- buy a gorgeous colorful blanket or beautiful painting for the wall- you're still a minimalist unless you choose otherwise-

One of the greatest lessons that I've learned on my minimalist journey is that the opinion of others DO NOT MATTER. Live and let live; I don't have to spend a boat load of money or fill up my home with stuff and things that I don't need to impress anyone. I love a neat, clean, and orderly environment with as little as possible sharing my space with me.

I agree about plants…they are an expensive hobby. You really have to care for them; they aren’t just “esthetic.” However I love caring for them and it brings me joy. 💕

I just think it’s refreshing to see someone on YouTube that’s real and honest (you). Amongst all the Chanel unboxings and constant luxury hauls that are flooding my feed I really find your videos very fresh and needed.
I’m no minimalist but in the last couple years I have really focused on keeping the things I use and like and it’s made a big difference in how my home looks and how fast I find things😃. We all seem to be a bit brainwashed by the “perfect” interiors pictured everywhere but we have to remember it’s no rl!

Hi kyra,
I find that so long as what I own has it’s own place to live & everything is organised I’m happy 😃

A 23 yr old aspiring minimalist. What’s some things u and ur mans do for free or by mindful spending? Like date wise etc? That’d be a fun video idea. I needd ideas lol!

i've been decluttering for years (i used to even get rid of things in high school, well before this big minimalism boom) so i don't even call myself a minimalist. i'm working toward a calmer lifestyle and i think that's the goal vs being overwhelmed by all the things i'm surrounded with

I definitely resonate with what you said about the guilt. I Still sometimes feel bad about how little I used to save / what I used to splurge on but I realise the importance of focusing on now, not the past. I also need to learn to not feel guilt over money in general, its the opposite now, I feel guilty If I don't save enough. I have realise life is short, its about balance, important to save but also not deprive yourself xxx

Coming from-Having money/Upper Middle Class family-to being a single parent, to having money again. None of the times growing up with every Want fulfilled, was I ever happier than I am now with just making enough and living paycheck to paycheck sometimes. I still make money mistakes. ♥️ Hope that makes sense.

This was a great insight into how minimalism can become an obsession! I love my plants, but I've noticed that as I work towards spending less, I'm just funneling it into plant purchases - so no more plants for me! Just gotta concentrate on caring for the ones I have. Definitely gotta do minimalism in the way that works for you! I'd love to see more videos about this and about how you organize those things you don't necessarily WANT to keep, but have to (like charging cables).

I became so addicted to the aesthetic aspect and owning the fewest amount of things. 5 years in and I felt empty; I lost the reason why I became a minimalist in the first place because I was so focused on how it was presented online. Now I keep everything in my life that brings me joy. Even if that means having more clothes, personal items, and a dozen pictures on my walls.

Because of you I have went through my entire home (except the kitchen and my closet) and decluttered a ton! I still have everything I need and feel so much more peace of mind. The kitchen and closet are going to take me a WHILE to go through but one step at a time!!!
