In this video, Garth Schulte covers how to work with the volume, velocity, and variety of big data using Hadoop. Hadoop has become very popular over the last few years, and the number of its applications have exploded. Garth examines some of the challenges Hadoop solves as well as the technology stack around it.

To really understand Hadoop, you need to wrap your mind around the problem that Hadoop solves. Big data is composed of terabytes and petabytes of data, and big tech companies like Facebook, eBay, Amazon, Twitter, and Google needed to have a way to make sense of this tremendous amount of data in an efficient, timely manner.

Our personal data footprints are growing exponentially, requiring these companies to grapple with three essential elements: the volume, velocity, and the variety of data.

This information comes in quite a few different formats, so how we handle all of that data coming from multiple sources became problematic. Hadoop was created to navigate this quagmire effectively.
