We are surrounded by devices, up to the point we are unaware of their presence, and we stop questioning their form and how (or if) they work. Marc presents three different anthropomorphic - uncanny, shocking - works that add a body to interfaces. Come along the speaker's journey while developing them and explaining how critical design pieces that explore a speculative future can make us reflect on our relation with current interfaces. This works spark speculations and discussions about the shape of tech, its role in our society. Marc Teyssier is a Designer, Researcher and Associate Professor at De Vinci Research Center. Trained both as a Designer from l’Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantic (Nantes, France) and Engineer in Virtual Reality at Arts et Métiers ParisTech (Laval, France), he obtained a PhD in Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Paris in Human-Computer Interaction at Télécom Paris. Marc was a visiting Researcher at MIT Media Lab (Boston, US), Bristol University, (Bristol, UK) and Saarland University (Saarland, UK), where he pursued international collaboration while
teaching theory and practice in Design, Research and Digital Fabrication. His research is focused on Critical Design, and how technology impacts human interactions. Marc is now Principal Investigator of the “Resilient Futures” group at the DeVinci Innovation Center, where his works

What if we just like. Had humans communicate in person more again?

To me this proves that we don't want touch and emotions from our electronic devices, because when we add those features to them they start becoming creepy. So presuming we do still have those desires we should probably seek solutions elsewhere and perhaps use technology a bit less. This pandemic has shown that you can work without seeing eye to eye but you probably don't want to all the time.

I think this provocative innovation gives us a much graphic picture on how our gadgets "spies' on us. I mean the data our gadgets have of us is just as creepy and alarming as this video.

My phone is a tool. A multi tool useful in many ways. It’s main job is to deliver information and/or entertainment and it’s okay at this I guess…

However I never once thought it could replace human to human contact. I have my phone with me all day; if I’m with people or working its there but never touched, heck I forget I have it most of the time.

I do believe it can be hard to understand that a phone or any technology for that matter can’t replace what you get from genuine connections you can form with others. And I also feel some mental health conditions like anxiety or ADHD accentuate this misconception since it’s easier to use the tech as a crutch for the symptoms then it is to practice mindfulness and find solutions to the problem.
And Conditions like depression where human connection is the best treatment using a device can feel empty or like there’s something wrong.
I guess I’d describe the feeling as the difference between watching someone win vs being the one who won.

The idea is interesting but it is definitely not a good idea now, this will become more feasible when we get droids that are as good as the ones from West World. In any case the questioning/provocative design intention is great

I often thought that if a cartoon or anime character becomes real, most of us will find "it" really creepy, especially with those eyes as big as your fists. We as humans are not ready for some boundaries to be crossed.

While interesting, I already don’t like how interactive devices have become.

Honestly I have been missing human interaction so much that it seems like an actual good idea I probably would buy those products because having something that truly would reflect people's movements. I miss seeing my moms face and feeling her hug me and it would be nice to find something that truly feels like human skin.

I feel like deep down as human beings, we don't see machines as be part of us, we see it as a tool, and we are the operator of the machine or tool so we innately creep out when we see those types of human-like objects.

According to my little knowledge of AI, AI will be able to make us a new generation of gods in the future! There might only be few steps left. Who knows? Thanks for sharing the idea of such a great job🤠
