It's unlikely Yellowstone would erupt in a single giant explosion (like in the movies)
MOst likely is that there would be a series of smaller eruptions along the caldera creating an unzipping effect
As the magma chamber underneath empties - the roof (10's of miles wide) would eventually collapse, thus creating a new caldera

You know there are bigger super volcanos than Yellowstone that have had a bigger impact on the earth and would do so again if they went off, I'm going to leave it to you to find out which, it may help you grow.

Each of these disaster videos always talk about the large clouds of ash; but even though that would happen like you say; the first thing that the International Space Station would see; is a huge nuclear blast -around 1 million megatons; if the blast didn't go in 8 small blasts -the size of Mount Saint Helen first; the huge blast would incinerate the 10 states around Wyoming; and the 6 states in the Canadian border too. The 2012 film was about right; coz Las Vegas and Los Angeles would be washed away; Denver would be gone; Phoenix and San Diego gone; San Francisco gone; and all that in the first 1 tenth of a second! In as much as the "end of time" scenario has been played out from everything celestial, to terrestrial, from giant asteroids hitting the earth, to our own earth erupting in its own doomsday mechanisms, volcanos to the rising seas from global warming, you can take your pick on how you want to expire. I often refer back to the Bible when these hazardous, but well thought out scenes come to play, and here, I am reminded of JOB when he stated, " Oh hide me in my grave, Oh Lord, till thy wrath be passed..." We know as humans, that someday, and it may be sooner than anyone may expect, that this old world will melt with fervent heat, and with the wrath of God, destroying this firmament that he has spared twice now.... the great flood, and the crucifixion of Jesus, Gods Son, we know hes gonna pour out his wrath without measure someday. Whatever that may be, it will be total, and complete. Only the Redeemed Of God, shall stand at that time., AMEN !!! Want a scairy book to read. First try Genesis.. Then end up with Revelations. From " In the beginning..." to "AMEN" You will be impressed, and if you believe it, you may be changed from mans theories, to Gods realisms !!!
