Most owners can't read their dog at all and react late. Better to prevent as you say. Learn to read your dog.

I thought I was doing a good thing by getting my pitty to sit and lay down when he starts to get excited around other dogs while walking. 😮

My 1 year old gsd does exact same hunt walk and then at a moment launches towards the dog. He's under-socialized with dogs... How can I make him meet other dogs peacefully... (He's trained with basic obedience and he's friendly to humans)

I have a question about this

This looks like a quick in the moment redirection

How does this help in the long hall? or what could i be teaching now to stop this exact behaviour later on in the dogs life

See my dog does all of this

Ive tried spinning her in circle to get focus off the other dog

Ive tried leash correction that dosnt help just thought i would try it

So what is the game plan to actually achieve a less reactive dog

Im talking the end game stage where i can walk up to a friend who has a dog and my dog not be botherd by it

My dog does this, but it’s play. Every other dog I’ve had, it was reactivity, but with Toby, he’s trying to pull a fast one and confuse the other dog, so he can jump around, lolling his tongue and showing them his belly like ha! Punked ya! He even does this with dogs he absolutely loves, but it’s a recipe for disaster when other dogs and owners rightly read it as what it normally is—reactivity. With Toby, it’s just goof ass sht.

This is reactive?? You should see my dog reacting. Standing on hind legs barking and growling. Yes he is reactive and not aggressive.
