It's only a matter of time before Max covers a mainline entry and honestly, I'm glad I waited for it.

My favorite ending has always been freedom. I see it as a sort of union of oppoosites, as you follow the will of God by recreating the world, while still allowing for chaos by retaining freedom and putting the world back as it was.

In this way, I see the Demifiend as a sort of Christ-like figure. He is born into the vortex world by Yuko, the Maiden (virgin), through a miraculous conception. He wanders the desert of the vortex world, facing worldly temptations in the form of the reasons, as well as being tempted by Lucifer. Nevertheless, he retains his faith in the world and humanity. He suffers and struggles through the vortex world, and at the end he negotiates with God on humanity’s behalf. He restores the world with humanity and their free will intact, believing that they have the power to change and make the world better on their own.

I have no idea if this symbolism was intentional, but I really like it regardless, and this is coming from a Non-Christian.

Awesome video! I'm so glad you're going through the SMT and Persona games. I greatly appreciate your perspective of the game's themes that borrow from mythology and religion. Are you planning on playing SMT4? It's my favorite one, and I would love to hear your insights on its story (and its characters, since there's a bit more focus on them compared to Nocturne).

I always found the depiction of god in the shin megami tensei to be deeply confrontational and fascinating.
To most westerners and europeans "god" is a being absolute good. But to those outside of (forced) early dogmatic education "god" is a tyranical figure who promises only eternal servitude to himself in a place in which everyone has given up their free will and those who aren't willing to submit await nothing but everlasting suffering even if their lives only lasted a few decades.

I spent quite literally between 3 separate plays 3000hrs + just getting to know the game inside and out.

One of the best RPGs of all time.

Right up there with Legend of Legaia.

Id like to see you do an in depth of that game!
Id even lend my copy to you in order to do a play on it!

a few comments

1) in SMT "the god of law" refers to YHWH, jehova. The god of the bible. He is almost universally portrayed as evil. The true demon ending is an attempt to kill him for good, since in smt he's not the "True" god, but a creation of "The Axiom", the universal truth. It pretty much culminates on the storyline (and dlc) of SMT 4.

2)All SMTs are built like this. Althought Nocturne's reason system is the most complex view of it. All others have a simpler system, based on Law, Neutrality and Chaos. Neutrality is often seen as the individualistic choice.

3)The true demon ending (and to a degree all ending now that i think about it) in SMT Nocturne is an attempt to permanently kill YHWH, since he will always exist as long as people exist and do so in a condition in which they can believe in him.

In my personal opinion none of the true reasons match my own ultimately though the very nature of my reason (which would best be described as boundless potential/Independent will) would align me with the Demifiend as the world id seak to build would be one where will is the strongest thing of all and a strong enough belief in something manifests it into a tangible force, a world like that would much align with a world without divinity
