Just stopping in a mere day before Shadow of the Erdtree. Don’t you let your fire fade, any of you.

Phase 1: Chosen Undead & Curse bearer
Phase 2: Gwyn

Even without any context, the music has a mournful feel to it at 2:15 onward. The tone basically switches from "final boss's theme song" to "requiem for the final boss, " or "requiem for a dying world" - as if the music itself is saddened by the in-game events.

Soul of Cinder is such an innovative boss, especially in phase two. Not only does the player have to fight a revamped Gwyn, but they have to do it while blinded by tears

this song is this games definition of “this is it. this is the absolute end”

i love how soul of cinder mirrors the player mechanically, while gael mirrors you thematically. soul of cinder can do everything you can, while gael is effectively the same person as you - an undead so determined, that they changed the course of history and killed nearly everyone for the sake of a single purpose.

Imagine if the soul of cinder had a phase where he brandished a straight sword and a fiery round shield, blazing as if it were the sun itself..

I hate the fact that Bandai killed the main menu theme for ds3 as well. I swear if they copyright Ludwig’s theme from bloodborne I am not going to be happy.

What I love most about this theme is just how tired it sounds, which fits the ending so perfectly. Even the bombastic orchestra at the start almost sounds like it's trying to hype itself up, like it's building up it's energy for just one more fight, but once that PLIN PLIN PLON hits and you're hit by the piano and the strings, it deflates and can no longer carry on that energy. It is quite literally all burnt out, just like the Dark Souls Series, all that's left is to finish the journey.

This fight is literally against yourself. Its everything you have overcome in one boss fight. The reason I love dark souls so much is cause you must become better and overcome no matter the odds no matter the bullshit and bitter sweat pain. Thank you Fromsoft for delivering a game that still impacts me 8 years later!

Soul of Cinder is every single one of us who linked the fire in both DS1 and DS2.

And every lord who linked the fire as well

And of course the last soul we fight against is Gwyn

They just couldn’t let go of what they sacrificed for

But here we are, we have the choice to let fire fade

Just let it go and no more suffering

So the other video got copyrighted by Bandai. Reading the comments under that video was part of this beautiful experience for me, along with listening to this soul-crushing OST, and Bandai has just taken all that away now... I still remember my first playthrough, I already knew what the theme had in store, but still tears started flowing out just as Gwyn's part kicked in... "One last dance, old friend..." that's all I could think of.

yes, plin plin plon is great, but the lead up to it is so grandiose and incredible, i find myself loving that part just as much.

Ngl when the plin plin plon started in the background and I heard it for the first time I got goosebumps, lost focus and died. Incredible game
