Hi, Every precaution/suggestion you expressed in this video is of great importance for a novice. You are, one swell of a teacher. I think you should go about teaching people/schools to respect this creature, who wants to live among us, rather than fear this gentle/shy creature, who gets treated in this world as its done out of fear and its sad.... My best wishes for your future Very informative and thank you for it all.

Just caught one yesterday, coming to check a better way. Had nothing but a long straight stick, I couldn’t pin the head, so I went for the gummy bag technique. Luckily found that nearby.

The only legitimate reason for anyone to want to catch a snake should be to remove it from a human conflict zone I.e. from residential premises offices, shops etc where there could be a danger both to humans from the snake as well as from humans to the snake.

Doing stunts with a snake, or showing off by touching it's hood is not only unnecessarily risky but also unethical since snakes hate human touch.

I'm sorry, while the intention of this video are good, there's a lot in it that's questionable.

1. The interpretations of hand movements by cobras seems completely anecdotal and is not supported by any kind of scientific study to date. Snake rescuers will often say things like this but it needs to be taken with a fair deal of skepticism. One quick test of this theory - anyone who has worked with cobras will tell you from experience that cobras almost never spread their hoods at one another (or indeed at other snakes). It's only done when there's a perceived threat, which is usually a much larger animal like a bird of prey or a mammal around.

2. Unclear what purpose tapping the snake on the head while it's distracted serves. Looks like a bit of showmanship that simply exploits the behaviour of most cobras.

3. Bottling snakes is a horrible practice. They're usually airtight and transparent - both of which are bad for snakes. They also tend to overheat and are risky to secure safely. Bagging snakes is a much better method of capture.

My comment isn't meant to diss on the video or the handler here - he was clearly quite skilled at dealing with snakes. However, this video claims to be educational and instructional in nature, and it's absolutely wrong to put un-sound advice and information in it. We have enough unskilled and unethical rescuers in India, and it's no coincidence that most of them are young men with something to prove.
