America is a corporation not a country

Been saying this for years. America feels like an isolated, soul crushing wasteland. A feeling of emptiness and desperation. People no longer cultivate friendships or interact with each other. Perhaps why there is a mental illness epidemic here that nobody addresses? Something is seriously wrong!!

The problem with America is that nobody trusts anybody. People look at other people as potential threats. There is no social cohesion. I was in the U.S. last month, and i smiled at people. They look at me as if there was something wrong with me. Americans look depressed and have very hugh social anxiety. That's my observation.

Social life: Social media
Relationships: P*rnhub
Entertainment: doomscrolling
Purpose: employment

We surpassed cabin fever. We’re just burnt out and accept it.

I'm 52 years old. It didn't used to be like this. Back in the 90s people hung out everywhere. The streets and parks were packed full of kids playing, teenagers everywhere, families going out for pizza and hitting the video store. Now everything is dead and empty.

It’s because America has become too expensive to even have a social life. That’s why when you ask anyone how they’ve been, they always respond with “I’m maintaining”, “not much, I’ve been working”, “just out here surviving”, “I’m hustling”, “paying bills” and so on.

I’m convinced our car culture and dependency of it has lead to rising mental issues and lack of community over time.

There's a lack of third spaces in this country. We're only supposed to work, pay bills/taxes/rent, and die. 😢

The new American dream is to leave to another country. People are broke financially and spiritually 😢

"Adults with friends" = Rich person or homeless. In-between is the no new friends zone.

I am Kenyan, but I have lived in the US for some years. What you said is true. After college, there's no social life. Am glad I am back home

The first thing I noticed when I got back two weeks ago was the sadness in people's eyes. It's almost soulless. Conversations feel quite empty and I even tried to have a conversation with the Uber driver who picked me up and it led nowhere.

Human beings are not meant to live like this.

Everyone has a front porch but no one is outside

No lies told! From a woman's perspective, when I came to America I just noticed nobody talks/smiles to anyone & if they do its mostly fake plastic smiles. Taking yearly vacations back home in Nairobi is always a top priority.

I thought i was the only struggling with to maintain a social life. As an immigrant it is emotionally painful. America is an hyper individualistic anti social society. Keep spreading the truth

You nailed it man! There is no community. There is no culture. There is nothing. The average American has two friends and that is it. It is a hopeless void.

I've had this realization even as a teen (30 now). As I've seen someone write before, "America isn't a country, it's an economic zone". It's extremely individualistic, materialistic, hyper capitalistic, and borderline dystopian. It's a place that checks off a list of many extremes, however none of them are beneficial to encouraging a strong, happy, and healthy society. As a result, we have a culture that champions the pursuit of money, status, and career success rather than cultivating meaningful relationships with other human beings that we come across.

I'm a veterinarian from Mexico and living in the US has been such an isolating and emotionally challenging experience. 2 years have gone by without a single genuine connection.

I live in America and I can confirm every word this man says is true.
