Usually a 5 year old may complain of pain after having food, then it is associated with indigestion. Usually it depends on thee eating habits of the kid. If the child is taking any oily food, spicy, citrus type of foods, it can cause gastritis and in turn cause an abdominal pain, that is after burping this will be relieved. Here are other causes causing abdominal pain after taking food, that is if the child has chronic constipation, or an episode of gastroenteritis, the child may be having a secondary lactose intolerance, which may last for a period of 4 – 6 weeks. After a gastroenteritis for the lactose intolerance to subside, and at this time if the child is taking more milk, cheese, etc. This may lead to bloating of the stomach and abdominal pain, it can be relieved by burping. If the abdominal pain is associated with any continuous vomiting, or fever or chills with fever and has to be assessed by the doctor and has to be checked for infections like appendicitis and urinary tract infections.
